We all live our lives with great memories behind us. Memories that forms who we are. In my case, to name a few is graduation day, the first kiss with the first real girlfriend under the cherry-blossom. My father playing “Gattuso” in Greece 2004. A rather simple game where he just threw me around in the pool and acted mean, therefor “Gattuso”. Last but not least, a late night in a Stockholm suburb when me and my friend came home to his, soon-to-be, girlfriend and she and another viciously fantastic woman cooked dinner at 2.30 in the morning.

These are memories that I’m carrying with me throughout this life, but the truth is. It is only memories. I’ve graduated, the first girlfriend and I broke up. I’m too old for my father to throw me around in a pool, and I hardly go out to that suburb anymore. This is also a part of life. To accept that memories are memories and not a part of your future. Something that us Interisti, sometimes have had some difficulties with.

Dejan “Deki” “Dragone” Stankovic stands before the chopping block and could leave Inter during the summer. In my opinion, as a person who loves Deki more than most players in our team, it is the total right call. Many of us thought that Stankovic had hit his peak even before José Mourinho’s time in Inter. Right there, he proved us wrong. But now, injuries and age has caught up to the Serbian Lion, and I believe his time has come. This is really nothing to be sad about even. Footballers have never been eternal and rather than cheering for Stankovic and spit on the fact he has to leave, or cheering that he has to leave and spiting on Stankovic, as some people do. Remembrance is good but short. Rather than getting emotional and taking sides, I accept the fact that Stankovic have served Inter with his heart and now it’s time for him to hang up the shirt and pass the fire on to another player. The circle of life and the circle of football.

Many people were upset last year with the departures of players like Douglas Maicon, Julio Cesar and Lucio. That it was wrong to sell the legends from 2010. Of course, you could think so. Yet, that is only a way of thinking for a supporter and not for a club that wants to keep on winning. All players that are sold, are sold because of the aspect of the future. What happened to Maicon, Cesar and Lucio?
Maicon left Inter and is now spending his career farting on Manchester City’s bench. Julio Cesar went to QPR, played well and got relegated. Lucio, dear old Lucio, sold his legend-status at Inter to play three matches with Juventus, get injured and then get shipped off back to Brazil. Are these players we should have kept to keep winning the Champions League again? No…
It is easy to sit back and dream about what has been. Imagine if we had all the players Inter ever had in their top peak at the same time. Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, Zamorano, Cordoba, Materazzi, Matteus, Facchetti, Zanetti, Nacka Skoglund, Milito, Muntari…. Hmm…

Those pictures of our favorites back in their top form are built on memories. Memories give us sweet dreams. Sweet dreams are made of these, who am I to disagree? But let’s face it, memories build dreams, not the future.
