Inter’s Mauro Icardi was interviewed on the radio show Sello de Futbol in Argentina and talked about the steps that took him to Italy and the Argentine national team: “In Rosario I have everything. My family, my friends, my first coach. Whenever I have the opportunity, I return because I miss all of that.”
On the move to Barcelona: “It was a difficult change, I was young and went there alone. It wasn’t easy. The basis in Barcelona is the work from the lower categories, which is logical to then arrive in the first team. They work the same way in all categories.”
The meeting with Messi: “To get to know him was really nice, he treated me well and told me that if I needed to, I could trust him. Reaching Barcelona’s first team is difficult and it’s also one of the reasons why I left. But now they have no striker with my characteristics, I am a number nine in the box. I like to use my head and they play on the ground instead. Who inspires me? I like Batistuta very much, Eto’o as well.”
Then he came to Italy and Sampdoria : “Then I came to Italy, my goal was always to do well. Coming to Inter was important, fundamental for being called to the national team. I have always said that I wanted to defend my country’s shirt, although I have been called to the Italian national team. I’m Argentine, I feel Argentine and I want to defend that jersey.”
