mazzarri salme

Walter Mazzarri was interviewed by Inter Channel ahead of tomorrow’s fixture against Trapani in the 4th round of the 2013/2014 Coppa Italia at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in San Siro.

Now it’s again time for Coppa Italia after the match against Cittadella. Trapani have expressed a great sense of enthusiasm as this could be the chance of their lives, therefore it could be tricky….

“Yes we have to be very attentive as we have everything to lose here, we know this. And I’ve coached at all levels, now I understand the enthusiasm that these lads feel now that they’re coming to San Siro to play Inter but or generally speaking any tem from the North. We have to be alert and concentrated as I won’t be starting with those who always play. I think it’s correct to give the chance to those who have played less, therefore it will be interesting for several reasons but with one goal: going through to the next round.”

Trapani play with a 4-4-2 formation, they’re very compact and come to the San Siro with a solid gameplan…

“The know how this works, I think that they will more or less play with their best players, they can make the impression of a lifetime. We have everything to lose, but still we have to qualify to the next round.”

After the match against Sampdoria you underlined the negative aspects, and as an echo of these words there’s now talk of a confrontation with the team…

“I have always talked to the team, but we’ve played 13 matches at the highest level where we’ve played good football but we musn’t forget that I’m new here. The team was lowering its guard, I only pointed this out to the group but we can’t forget that we’ve had a good run in the league with good results both with regards to our performances as well as the results themselves. You have to pay attention to the details, to be able to hang on to a result to bring the match home, to be better than the opponents.”

If we consider that you won’t be able to play with a completely new starting line-up when compared to last Sunday. Are you expecting a response as early as tomorrow?

“Those who follow our training sessions knows that we always work with double roles, everyone knows what they have to do. It’s normal that he who’s played less wont have the same high match rhythm as one who has played all the time, but this applied to all teams who have to get players who haven’t played together a lot to actually play together. On the other hand there of course be players on the pitch who feel more fresh than they did last Sunday. I’m confident that the team will play some good football tomorrow.”
