Is it time to sell Ranocchia? He’s been okay, but not the player we hoped he’d be. With the rumors of attention from England, I think we could get around 17 million euros, which we could use this winter. We could land Nainggolan and maybe Kolarov this window. With Kolarov we’d have a dead ball specialist, as well as someone who can cross from the left flank. And Nainggolan is a ready-made heir to Cambiasso, who could tighten up our weak midfield. I also think Guarin is ready to leave Inter, any decent offer needs to be seriously looked at.
I completely agree with you guys on the fact that Mazzari has trust issues with his players. Some of them are clueless of the plan Mazzari wants to them to play in as you mention and a great example was Kovacic last sunday.
IMO I kind of dislike the way Mazzari is approaching the game plan and tactics. I feel he’s trying to force people into a one system which is VERY good, creates lots of problems for the other teams and all but it takes a lot of time for the players to adapt. The other down side of his approach is that we are left with no option, just like Ben mentioned on the last week’s episode, we have no plan B. This can be extremely dangerous in the long run. Mazzari is taking the freedom of players to express themselves in a comfortable way. I may not be the best tactician but not having a plan B really worries me.
I fear on the long run we’ll just buy players to become another Napoli (during Mazzari’s time). I see Lavezzi and other Napoli players we’re being linked to.
Instead of having to develop a more dynamic balanced team, I fear we may be going through a tight tunnel. Imagine god forbid Alvarez gets injured, what will we do? we lack options.
I love Dzeko, if he came, things will look much better for us. Palacio could play wide in Lavezzi’s place to create play together with Alvarez.
This mercato IMO will tell much about Mazzari and Thohir. I can’t wait to see how things will turn out.
Peace.
The fact that Mazzarri does have trust issues with players is true (the best proof in this context is Kovacic to me), but on the other hand I always keep in mind that I am not there every single day to watch the guys train and I don’t know what happens in the dressing room. I would really like to see Kovacic play more due to the fact that there are already rumors of him being unhappy and willing to leave, and he has such immense talent, it would be a disaster for Inter to lose him.
On the lack of a “plan B”, though, we have to be clear that Mazzarri asked to be given time and it is only logical that Inter do exactly that. This is a new system to the players and it is hard enough to fit them into this, let alone make them work on more systems at the same time (WM has said the team isn’t ready for this yet). Even if Inter fail to become complete until the end of this season, it should not be viewed as a great tragedy, as we should finally show some patience with a coach. Mazzarri seems dedicated enough to make this team win again.
I completely agree that the upcoming transfer market will give us an important hint about what Inter’s ambitions will be, though. Should anyone ask for my opinion (which of course isn’t the case :D), I wouldn’t waste dramatic money this winter, and would rather keep the real hits for the summer, by which time I will have dealt with eventual changes in the director positions.
