 Walter Mazzarri opened his press conference today by looking back to the game against Sassuolo before quickly turning his attentions to tomorrow’s match against Fiorentina at the Stadio Franchi.

“Winning last Sunday was definitely good for us but I’ve tried not to place too much importance on it when speaking to the lads. Subconsciously though winning puts you in a different frame of mind. Now we need to start stringing together results and performances more consistently. It’s not going to be easy because Fiorentina are a great team and they know exactly how to cause problems for you.”

How are Milito, Hernanes and Kovacic?

“We will know after the last session today. For Milito there are no problems, for the other two I’ll know today.”

Would it mean much for you if the owner was closer to the team?

“I have a good relation to the president, on the radio and from a personal point of view I said that I would’ve appreciated it more. Also because of the language. Having a more fluid relation with a president that you agree with would be good, but only from a personal point of view.”

Will you answer De Laurentiis?

“What he said was because of love, he tried to keep me until the end and that’s why he said certain things.”

Would it be good to give continuity to the players used?

“Seeing as we have our sessions to see who feels well I’ve tried to make the players compete as much as possible. I’ve told the players that it isn’t impossible that the same players play all the time, but I have to think about a lot when I choose the team. Everyone needs to give all they got, then a coach always has his ideas.”

Did you see Fiorentina’s game in the cup? Does Milito need more continuity?

“Milito came back, then I had to remove him but that’s how it has been for all our strikers except Palacio. No one has had continuity. Also Botta was supposed to leave but I liked what he proved on the practice sessions and I wanted to keep him. Today I can’t make experiments. I will try to get everyone back in form. Fiorentina are doing great things since two years back and we are facing them in a special moment for them, the difficulties in this game are clear.”

Last year Fiorentina gave Inter a hard time. Have you tried to learn from that game or are you trying to ignore that?

“I have never talked to the players about that game, I’m focusing on the games I’ve been a part of myself. At most we’d learn from the last game between us in the league, what I’d look at would be that game and not the one last year.”

How many minutes does Icardi have in his legs?

“In these days I’ve made the players understand how I see things. In the games you do exactly what you do on the practice sessions. You come in form by practicing on the highest intensity, you don’t always need to play games with continuity to come in form. Icardi has been practicing for 3-4 weeks now and this makes him able to play for more minutes.”

You said that you let the players compete:

“I admire competition and I hope that it will give me a good base for my choices. If the players are competing in the intensity, the same qualities they prove on the practice sessions will be shown on the games. If they give everything and a lot on the sessions, and are in good form outside of that, my choices for the games will be easy.”

About Fiorentina’s injury situation:

“Rossi has been out for a while, Gomez is just missing continuity, but I won’t talk about their injury situation I just think about Inter.”

Would you have bought Icardi and Kovacic if you were asked before?

“I got this team. For example I saw Botta on the practice and decided to keep him instead of Belfodil who I still hadn’t found a position for, which is why he was sent to Livorno to prove his value. We will follow him and if he does good he will return to Inter. I’ve made choices seeing what team I found, I valued the mercato together with the club. Icardi and the others are players that I found here, I didn’t influence the mercato in June and tried to make the best of my squad.”

Some thoughts about Vidic?

“I prefer to talk about Fiorentina and the other games from here to the end. I will talk about the summer mercato during summer.”

Our colleagues on Fcinternews.it ask about Belfodil’s physical conditions that were critisized by Livorno’s coach:

“The sporting director explained things better. I think those were objective words that explained why Belfodil didn’t play. Belfodil has been practicing with continuity, he might not be in the best of match form since he hasn’t played much. Though he has always been working well in Pondrelli and Scanavinos system that are amongst the best in Italy.”

Until december Inter hadn’t lost away, from the game against Napoli you have lost 5 games. Why? What feelings do you have for the game tomorrow?

“I don’t have any feeling now. The feelings normally come five minutes into the game. I’m just thinking about preparing the games in the best of ways for the players. I don’t love emotions. The losses have came due to many reasons, I’ve analyzed the games and know that mostly what has given us critics is the result. Though I need to value the performances, and that’s different from the result.”

Are you working on the four man defense for the next season or could it be used straight away?

“For some tactical adaptments you also need the players who are adapted to it. At Napoli I worked many weeks in a row on a four ans defense, which gave us seven wins in a row because the team was ready for a four man defense, or for a three man defense with a change during the game. I’m working a lot with organization to get the most out of every single player, I can’t just throw together a formation if the team isn’t ready for it. In the future we will be able to play with a four man defense, why not?.”
