Walter Mazzarri held a press-conference after Inter beat Icelandic side Stjernan convincingly 3-0 in the first leg of the last qualifying round to the Europa League.
“I’m pleased with everything, with the result and how we played. I’m pleased with the progress the team is making, in particular with how we played in the first hour of play because we were patient and calm until we managed to break the deadlock which wasn’t easy seeing as how they played with 10 men behind the ball. They were very good tactically, there wasn’t a lot of space to play through so we needed to stay calm to be able to maneuver them.”
“Which we did, with a good possession of the ball and we risked little or nothing. Until Icardi was able to break the deadlock thanks to some good football. Then it was very important to score again just after the break with a great goal after having executed a great move. After 2-0 we paid close attention to how we played so that we didn’t concede any counter-attacks, after that our performance dropped a little and we conceded a little bit but this was more due to our fitness level not being on the same level as theirs seeing as how they are much more prepared from an athletic point of view.”
Mazzarri then made a plea to the supporters ahead of the return leg: “I think that this 3-0 result could push the crowd to come to San Siro because there we can have some fun in what will be our season debut at home. I hope a lot of people will come, this would be a great thing for the lads as well. This is an Inter that is growing and that promises good things to come.”
“Im happy with everyone’s performance, I’m happy with the progress Hernanes is making and also Kovacic’s performance because they had to play box to box. Dodó did some interesting things, he needs to continue on this path. We believe in him. Mvila? He has grown a lot, we knew that he needed to play. For me I think we did very well in the transfer market. M’Vila for next to nothing on loan, Osvaldo on loan with a desire to prove himself, Dodo on loan, Vidic for free, we got Hernanes in the winter market and what a fantastic player he is, now that he has more support and can play more advanced he will really show his quality and why he was such a dominant player at Lazio, their best and their captain.
Why is everyone hating on Mazzarri? He did a great job at Samp and then Napoli. Even though it was a very preliminary game, as we saw today, the 3 man defence with two overlapping wingers/wing-backs gave us dominance in key phases of the attack, while having three central defenders meant we were not outnumbered when the opposition countered. It’s not my favourite formation, I prefer to play four across the back, but he has used it for a long time, Conte stole his tactic for Juventus and won three scudettos as well. We have a good trainer, I have faith in him, I don’t think we can really find a better coach right now either, who is available? Mancini? No thanks.

Sure. Inter fans would love to have Pep Guardiola or Diego Simeone as coach and Ronaldo and Messi for players but thats not realistic. Our coach is Mazzarri and he is the best option for our team right now. The players only speak of Mazzarri with respect and admiration. He led our team back into Europe last season, which was by no means a given. We finished in 9th place the year before!!! Some Inter fans have ZERO patience at all. Give the guy a chance to do something. We have the possibility to win 3 trophies this year. I don’t think we’re at the level of a scudetto yet but lets not rule it out. But Europa league or Coppia Italia are real possibilities. Thohir has bailed out and steadied the sinking ship that was our team and now we have a very strong squad and a talented and strong willed coach. I have high hopes for this team for this season. Its just interesting to see that if anything ever goes even slightly wrong for Inter in the preseason, regular season, whatever, all you guys would cut of Mazzarri’s balls, BUT when things go well it has Absolutely nothing to do with him, his training or tactics. Give the poor bastard some credit. and show some faith this season.

Its his ATTITUDE that i hate, i dont mind the results in the first place. Lets say Inter won another treble with him, but hes still the same person, blaming others when the team lose (him not included ofc! insigne is more suited in 4231 formation. not in mazzari’s 3511..
