Walter Mazzarri stated after Wednesday night’s victory against Atalanta “I’m already focussed on Cagliari” and this determination and attention to detail is what the ex Napoli tactician hopes will avoid a repeat of last season. If the Nerazzurri take three points from Zeman’s bottom of the table strugglers this Sunday, they will have 11 points (the exact total they had after five games last season). Underperforming players giving a much better level of performance (Instead of Alvarez it’s Osvaldo), a defence which seems to have been reinforced (replace Campagnaro with Vidic) and an injured hero’s return helping expectations rise (Replace Milito with Palacio). The team is scoring goals and not conceding very often, the very same characteristics it displayed though the first five outings in the 2013/14 Serie A campaign. So whilst Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that Inter are the only side capable of challenging Roma and Juventus, this is a time to urge a wait and see attitude.
There are some notable additions to Mazzarri’s 2014/15 Inter to speculate that they are capable of a sustained run at third place but as of now we have to keep last seasons collapse in mind. Gary Medel and Yann M’Vila will certainly help, as will the goal scoring exploits of Croatian superstar Mateo Kovacic. If Hernanes can find his form after yesterday’s cameo performance Mazzarri will have a bevy of midfield options. The depth up front is worrying and Inter won’t want to lose Mauro Icardi for as many games as last season. On top of this the team needs to find its best winger. On the left there is no argument: Dodo is first choice. That leaves Jonathan, D’Ambrosio and the inconsistent Nagatomo to fight it out for one spot on the right flank.
Add to this the wildcard of how Fredy Guarin can be used on a regular basis and there are still far more questions than answers as we approach the meaty portion of Inter’s fixture list.

ROTATION PLEASE!!!!!
I would like to see more rotation in the squad…especially with guarin/hernanes and m’villa/medel. that way all those players get significant minutes and are able to progress.
We need another striker option and someone to play on the right. D’ambrosio and Nagatomo could be used as back ups and rotation but we need a better right wing. jona sucks.
Also, Andreolli needs to play more often. I hope he starts this weekend to give JJ or Vidic a rest. Rolando would have been good.
It really annoys me seeing mvilla on the bench and jonathan/naga on starting eleven..what i am trying is that mazzari should find an XI that both medel and mvilla fit because they are quality players..but this year i see a lot of rotation from mazzari,so i hope both medel and mvilla will shine for us..
I repeat that we need good wingers for Mazzarri’s tactics to work. We were lucky with Dodo on the left, but the right flank is absolutely dreadful. Jonathan not only doesn’t help with creating attacking moves, he destroys those already created by the others. Instead on focusing on an attacker on the winter transfer window, we should take care of that position and bring in someone decent. D’Ambrosio and Nagatomo are slighlty better, but their deliveries are about the same.
Yeah, Dodo was a jackpot… an unexpected one if you ask me. But the right side is still a massive hole in the team especially if you take into account that Nagatomo cannot really play good on the right side. I hope we get a good winger in January.
As far as I remeber after 5 matches in 2013/2014 season we had 13 pionts. It’s seems to be a little mistake in the text. Forza Inter ! 🙂
