Kovacic Cagliari

Mateo Kovacic is currently in a race against time if he is to make the squad for Inter-Napoli.  The 20 year old midfielder suffered a strained adductor in the left thigh against Azarbaijan this while on International duty with Croatia this past week.  Kovacic said:

“As we saw on Friday, the pitch was very slippery and I made an awkward motion which caused pain in my left leg. The injury was not severe, but I just didn’t want to risk anything.”

Kovacic then spoke about Inter’s fortunes thus far:

“Before the season started, I thought that this would be Inter’s year.  I wasn’t thinking about winning the Scudetto, I just wanted us to achieve something new.  We want to play better football than we did in the last two games but all is not lost.  In football one day you might be in seventh place, the other day you might be in third. Now we must change everything and do our best to win.  We have lacked some momentum and character in the last couple weeks and we must move on from this situation.”

Mateo Kovacic also gave his thoughts on his future and Napoli’s squad:

“I want to stay at Inter for a long time because I feel like I am an important part of the project.  I admire Dries Mertens and Higuan, then with Marek Hamsik and Insigne, Napoli have a strong attacking force”

Kovacic finished by mentioning the Inter fans:

“We have a great relationship with the fans.  In matches I am usually focused on the game and I tune out the boos and whistles, although the fans had the right to boo recently because they expected more from Inter.  Now we are all united behind the coach and are ready to succeed.
