Spanish portal Periodista Digital raise the possibility that this will be Diego Simeone’s last season in charge at Atletico Madrid. According to the website three huge European clubs could be willing to pursue him. Both Manchester Clubs in England and Erick Thohir’s Inter would all have interest in the ex Inter player if he became available. Simeone will decide everything and his will to either stay or go is the deciding factor.

mancini
I think if this week we draw or lose or anything bad happen, the short project will be given to mancini (he watching this game in the stadium), maybe someone has contact mancini, in the end of the season there will be new coach to replace mancini… *sorry for my bad english*
Like Kristijan, I think if we can’t get Diego Simeone, and if WM’s position is untenable for next season, we have to seriously look at Roberto Martinez
For fuck sake, udinese is seven points above us in 3rd position… i imagine if we were coached by him right now 🙁
You are invited for my birthday party Simeone
simeone will be perfect for us
I don’t think we should hope for Simeone… First of all, he’s still building at Atletico, so I don’t know if it’s realistic for us to expect him to leave, he has a contract until 2017 after all, so that’s another problem.
If he does leave Atletico, don’t expect only 3 clubs in the world to go after him. Suddenly you will see loads of them begging him with all kinds of offers, from huge money to project promises.
On the bright side, I think we’re safe as far as the Manchester clubs are involved. It’s completely against his methods and philosophy to join City, a club where the players mainly take so many things for granted – being an underdog was a huge foundation for his success at Atletico, it’s who he is as a person, rough and ambitious, proving a point. I can’t say it’s impossible, especially after Pellegrini’s questionable results this season, but still… I don’t expect this to happen, really.
United, on the other hand is completely impossible. LvG is there to stay, I’m sure of it, they’ve given him time and rightly so. Spent so much money on players he wanted, I don’t think they’d afford to rescind his contract.
As for Inter, Thohir would have to be VERY convincing as far as the project is concerned. He would have to offer Cholo some guarantees that he can do things his own way and that there is a ready machinery for everything else; get him players he likes too and complete liberty in selecting the squad and the way they play. His history with Inter plays to our advantage.
It remains highly, highly unlikely no matter what. Even if we enter the CL.
All that said, I really hope it’s not Mancini in the end. The man spells mediocrity. I also wouldn’t go with Mihajlovic, despite his good results this season, he simply hasn’t proved enough.
Jorge Jesus from Benfica, Frank de Boer from Ajax, Sevilla’s Unai Emery and Everton’s Roberto Martinez all are great coaches. But most of all I would advise Thohir to get the phone in his hands and call Marcelo Bielsa, there’s a revolutionizing coach who can leave a permanent mark, one who can really teach the players things they will remember after he’s gone.
Happy hunting to Thohir this next summer 🙂
I completely agree with you. Mazzarri was supposed to be a great coach as well, we were all happy when he came to Inter. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out. We need someone versatile, who’s a great psychologist and who can change things on the run. And those are all things that we’ve seen Simeone do. We can dream at least.
Another thing I hope we see at Inter soon which has been a problem until now is to finally provide some stability. Every few months Inter is involved in some sort of major operation like the sale to Thohir, or some major scandal like the Guarin/Vucinic swap last winter, Moratti leaving recently etc.
These things don’t directly influence players, but it affects the way they see our club. It will also affect the way the candidates Thohir’s got lined up to take over when Mazzarri leaves (well, if he leaves, but he probably will) see the club and the potential for the job.
Nice comment though, but the recent changes I think should happen to propel us to a safe stability you know, what is all the matter is to remain focused and united during this period of time, and at last I hope just hope to see Simeone here beside ourselves
The problem with scandals like these (Moratti leaving suddenly, the Vucinic/Guarin drama, the Tavecchio support incident etc.) combined with the bad performances the team has been having and the even worse game quality they’ve been producing could lead to the project completely falling apart.
Icardi and Kovacic have been heavily attracting offers from everywhere, if they don’t see this club working very well soon, I don’t think they’ll see a reason not to jump ships. The same goes for Handanovic, who’s been a top goalkeeper for 3 seasons now, and is only now entering his best years. Then there’s also Dodo, Roma can take him back at any time, Osvaldo and M’Vila are only still here on loan.
Keeping unity within the club depends on results, it is results and perspective that will keep the players united and willing to stay, there’s nothing else to create an emotional bond in the first place.
Good analysis but I disagree on something. I think Mancini (as much as I don’t like him) would be a good short-term solution. His big problem in the past was his favouritism to players he knew (Veron, Favalli etc.) Mazzari is just stubborn and inflexible (worse traits in a coach.)
We need a coach who is familiar with Serie A who can play 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 (diamond) because these are the formations that suit us best.
I believe that the worst thing we could do right now is fire Mazzarri. I don’t like the guy at all, I think he should go at the end of this season because he doesn’t look like he has anything more to offer than what’s already been shown (which is way too little in itself), but we’re gonna have to pay him a ton of money (him being the highest paid coach in the league), which is why I believe that our next target should be the safest possible bet. Mancini is anything but that! Not to mention Moyes here, I tend to take the rumors about him as a joke (wishful thinking).
On the other hand, I don’t believe he can be considered a short-term solution, I doubt he would accept a contract that only gives him the rest of this season, having won Scudetti with Inter before, the EPL with City etc. – he’s crap, but his CV demands a serious approach to negotiations, and half a season would be an insult to him. On the other hand, offering him something like a 2 year contract is out of the question IMO.
Finally, I don’t know how anyone would manage to fix our team in the middle of the season. Implementing a new tactical system with so many players who are new to the surroundings anyway (perhaps Medel, Vidic and M’Vila above all, having never played in Italy before, unlike Osvaldo and Dodo) will be hell, and would probably end up costing us as many points as we would lose with Mazzarri – plus the money we’d have to pay.
Excellent comment, I can only agree with you mate.
