From getting a special role as a director in charge of Inter’s communication with the referees Andrea Romeo has now became Inter’s new team manager. He was interviewed by Inter Channel about the game:
“There are many emotions because I’m in one of the greatest clubs in the world and to begin this adventure is very important for me, I hope to do well. The role of being responsible of the communication with the referees exists in every team, but Inter is the first team which has called a former referee to do it and for me it was an honor and great fun to join the guys I had refereed earlier. I have a great report with almost all of them and I hope to build a more important one. We need to be warm and have empathy.
In these days we are one of the most correct teams in this, but we’d need to ask the players if they like having me with them. Though today I received a lot of compliments. The discipline and knowing the rules is very important in football. If I had imagined all this? After 28 years of the referees association and 100 matches in the Serie A, and a lot of games in Europe as fourth referee and Champions League referee I had never though I’d be a part of an important team like Inter.
This is a great honor for me and I hope to contribute. Which player asks the most? All the players ask a lot, most of all the youngsters, but also the most experienced players ask me to explain many of the decisions that the referees take on the match days. I have also been asked a lot about the refeeres in Europe for the players to adapt in the Europa League.”
