The Inter leadership are currently trying to determine who will arrive and who will leave in the January mercato but they are also working on contract renewals. One of the most important renewals is that of striker Mauro Icardi. The Nerazzurri are said to be looking to acquire a portion of the players image rights but Icardi is likely to want compensation for this type of arrangement, as he currently owns 100% of his rights. The question that Inter are currently debating is whether they should make the player one of the highest paid on the team or begin to accept bids from abroad at the end of the season, as both Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly interested.

Icardi is still young and can improve on his movements and work rates. That’s much harder than someone trying to improve on his nerves and killer instinct. You don’t see many strikers taking a PK against their old team, in the 90th minute and with your team in a bad stretch needing a win. Not many players have the balls to shush their negative fans and stick it to former fans who were taunting you.
What he lacks can be taught but what he has can’t. I say we must keep him and build our tactics around him and Kovacic.
If 30m+ offer has arrived then we can think about it
If inter can sell him for more than 20-30 million euro, that would be a great additional fund to improve the whole squad by adding two good attacking wingers and a balanced full back. I would sell him right away for the sake of my Inter. Unfortunately, no one will pay that hefty tag price today especially with his inconsistent forms except some sheiks would do that in a heart beat.
Moreover, with this financial situation Inter would have a very limited choice to bring in a better and more consistent bomber to replace Icardi if we decided to sell him. Especially when our first choice attacker, Palacio has dropped his form and lost his killer instinct since the beginning of this season. We still do need Icardi at least for now. Let’s cross our fingers that Osvaldo could regain his great form and help Icardi to find more goals. I saw when Osvaldo on the pitch, Icardi got more supports and better chances to hit the net. With Palacio, Icardi seems to be very isolated, static and quite lazy. I don’t know why.
If we can get 30 million for Icardi, then sell him, if not, then give him the renewal.
This was expected honestly. I don’t think he would even stay for a higher wage. He knows he has potential and he wants CL football and it’s very obvious that he is not getting that with Inter next year. The only think that would make him stay at this point is his wife, so let’s hope she loves Milano a lot.
Icardi’s wasted opportunity at the beginning of the game was a shame, but you need to give credit to the goal keeper, one of the tallest and probably best goalkeeper in the world. Icardi was kind of arrogant and try to score with a fancy touch to the side of the keeper. A classic play used by many others before strikers, but maybe not the safest bet in a Inter-Milan game. But, I have to say that Icardi showed more maturity and class than El Shawary when you compare the two one-on-one situations they had. Icardi is only 21. He will learn from this experience that he cannot do that in important game. However, it is worth to say that if he had score there the whole world would be praising how fantastic he is… His second attempt was a beauty that hit the post. I know everybody is going to say that Aguero, and Messi don’t miss that kind of shots. But, I would tell them to start watching all the Barcelona and MC games to see how many goals those guys miss.
What does this have to do with the actual text, which is his contract?
Some people on this discussion are arguing that he must be sold because he is not good enough
If we sell him, he will probably turn into world’s best striker 🙂
Well you all know jesus deserve salary hike rather than icardi. Jesus has proven his worth a lot and played much more consistently in compare to icardi. Perhaps it’s just a strategy to lure big club, because his price will increase if he renewed.
Come on, he’s still raw. I really cant mention his strength rather than finishing. Yes he’s only 21, but we cant play with an isolated striker who can only do his job when good pass is served. We need result as soon as possible, and i realize the team was playing way better with osvaldo, palacio, and even bona as the target man. In fact we were so good with osvaldo in the line up. In 4-2-3-1, you need a smart striker who can hold and link up the play. Creating space and asssist for the winger. He’s not indispansable, if we can fish a huge chunk from him. It’s a steal for me. Just an opinion
Keep Icardi. We give outrageous wages to Guarin and we don’t want to pay this guy? Even if we sell Icardi for 30 mil (which won’t happen), who are we gonna get to replace him that would arrive for less than that?
Handanovic/JJ/Dodo/Hernanes/Kovacic/Icardi are the skeleton of this team. None of them should go.
I say sell Guarin, take Cerci and pay Icardi’s salary. It still won’t be as high as Guaro’s.
if he keeps up his ‘performance’ noone’s going to sign him, especially not for 20+m
He had one bad game, dude. Even Milito said he couldn’t sleep at night before the derby. And all the weight recently has been falling on Icardi and Kovacic.
what? he had one good game and almost invisible in another two or three games afterwards. then he had another good game but another couple of games waiting just to see him shines again. i’d say if any team offer huge chunk of money then give him out and took another player. someone who can score in a more daily basis or at least can had more impact on the team
The problem was that our attacking plays under Mazzarri were weak, predictable and lacking focus. Count how many times Icardi or Palacio had clear goal scoring opportunities in the last 10 matches. Icardi has been scoring every half chance he’s been given. In the latest games he had to come deep to even get the ball. What impact can he make when the attacks break as far as midfield. He’s the least of our problems.
how many times? i can say loads of chances. they wasted chances against cesena, napoli, sampdoria, parma. they wasted chances after chances. oh you gotta kidding me. he failed to capitalise at least one out of three really good chances against milan. how can people gave him really good chances when he mostly stay on the same place and being marked out by opponent’s defender? he had to work his ass off because that is what it means to be playing in a team. he is not the worst problem i can tell you that. but he (and palacio) is one of the worse. if he had capitalise some good chances he created he’ll be already leading the top scorer list by now and we’ll be further up ahead on the table. and seeing him as this team’s main offensive weapon, he should do his job better
Sign someone like who? This is the problem with the old inter, besides changing coaches too often. We did not invest in youngsters. We had no patient, we only wanted world class players. The big difference is that now the team has no money, so let’s stop dreaming about the Aguero, Falcao… We have a couple of promising young players that can become world stars, but instead of being patient and supportive everybody is asking them to be sold. Then when we see former players become starts at other teams everybody starts criticizing the Inter management. Everybody used to criticize Coutinho because he was always injured, too many dribbles, very inconsistent… (Pirlo, Canavarho, Seedorf…) Our history is full of players that were sold because we did not think they were good enough and went to become some of the best in the world. Icardy is a box striker so we cannot expect him to go down and get the ball, that is the job for Palacio or maybe Osvaldo. He is a player like Van Nisteroy, Hugo Sanchez, Zamorano…
was palacio a world class player back then? was milito a world class player? big no. but we get them and they made history here. the point is not about taking a world class players but taking someone who fit the coach’s description, fit the tactics and can work hard for the team.
world stars? oh geez tell me how many young players we sold that really became world stars? only one i had in mind that is pirlo. cannavaro and seedorf was already a star back then. and those three are obviously a sign of total stupidity of this club releasing their best players in their best years for ridiculous transfer.
you think nistelrooy and zamorano was a static players? you really wrong on that one. they work for the team, they move, opened space, exploited space while icardi were static most of the time. not to mention how good they are in finishing their chances. so there was a huge difference on those players. and frankly seeing this squad right now we don’t have players that can give him 10 really good chances every game.
for me it’s either we sell kova to get several good chance creator or we sell icardi and get some really good finisher. and based on their characteristic and performance i would pick kova than icardi
they are kids you know
I will try to answer your questions in the other you presented them for the benefit of the discussion. Was Palacio a world class player back then? Not, and he probably is not and never will be. He is just a very smart and proven player at the end of his career. Was Milito a world class player? Milito was bought for € 28 MM in 2009, a lot of money, so to answer your question, yes he was a world class player. How many young players had we sold that really became world starts? Well, like I said before Inter never believed in investing in young players. But, Pirlo and Coutinho are good examples. You think nistelrooy and zamorano were static players? I did not say that. But I insist they were box scorers. Zamorano became a seconda punta later in his career as he got slower, but his strength was always in the box. About trying to get players that fit the coach description and tactics. Hey, if you already figured out what Mancini wants do to, please let me know because I am dying to know what his plans are. Let me ask you one question. Lets pretend we can sell Icardi for 25MM, who would you buy with that money?
I think the € 28 MM was for Milito and Motta, no way we paid that much for Milito.
About Coutinho, I really don’t get some here; he is still not that great. Watch Liverpool games and see how his decision making still sucks. He just gets to play more there because the team is thin.
28mill? oh you got to be kidding. he was bought with motta and his transfer fee never revealed except for both of their price as one package. i already said pirlo and he is the only player that can be considered as what you said became world star player. while coutinho is still far from that. and we also made another stupidity by selling him in a very low price.
you’re clearly missing the picture here. i said “the point is not about taking a world class players but taking someone who fit the coach’s description, fit the tactics and can work hard for the team”. it’s not just about taking world class player with hefty price tag or doing what we always did lately that is taking anyone that we can reach. but taking players that really fit the coach. and in order to do that we needed cash. we all know how icardi needed good creators while we don’t have them right now. i don’t even think his finishing are that good. but instead of putting all our chips on someone who is on in one game and off on another two or three, why not separate that bear to two or three good players. it will improve the teams quality as a whole.
that is true
one bad game? take away the ones he scored goals at, and look at his performance then. his workrate is close to 0, if he is not served he is a shadow on the field
Have to say you hit that spot on. No future in keeping him.
Renew his contract i dont care if hes highest paid, he will be better in future hes just 21 years old right now come on…
If we sell him now i think he will flop at england and then guess who will be after him?! Milan and juve or napoli!! It will be just a similar situation like balotelli, so please inter must keep him at all costs! Dont repeat the same mistake!
he doesn’t deserve the highest paid, not right now. and balotelli’s transaction was one of the best transfer in post-treble era that we did
If hes not an ego and accept low wages then that would be awesome too! Balotelli wanted to leave, and we sold him for good cash. But icardi said many times that he wants to stay in inter and he loves inter! So keeping him is a wise choice, he will grow and become a better striker like vieri trust me bro.
WE MUST KEEP HIM YES
