Once again, SempreInter.com is giving the voice to the public. The question is simple. Is Andrea Ranocchia the best possible captain for Inter given the current squad?
It was never going to be easy for anyone to obtain captaincy after the retirement of Javier Zanetti. We would like to hear what you guys have to say. Tell us who you think should be the captain and why. Here is an example:
I do not think that Andrea Ranocchia is the best possible captain for Inter given the current squad. I think that he makes far too many mistakes, and simply is not solid enough in Inter’s defense. I think that Samir Handanovic should be Mancini’s captain because Handanovic always works hard, he carries the team, and he never gives up; characteristics of a world class captain. Samir Handanovic has been at Inter for more than 2 seasons now, and it is his time to obtain captaincy.
can we have a poll for this guys? (like the man of the match ones after games). think it’d be interesting to vote for our favoured captains 😉

There are reasons why handa have never chosen as captain. He’s not even the 2nd,3rd captain. The coach chose naga, guarin, and jesus instead of him. My point is that we know nothing about them off the pitch either in training, dressing room, or social life. Presence of Captain is not only needed on the pitch but also off the pitch. Rano might be not good enough on the pitch, but who knows he’s the one who is always encouraging and helping his teammates the most? We know nothing in this regards. Therefore I believe in Zanetti’s decision to choose Rano because he’s the one who knows the best for inter.
I’ve already made my opinion known in the Roma – Inter game posting. He’s not ready to be a captain, Handanovic would be a much better captain than him. He’s more consistent, and he’s a true leader. Ranocchia should be given the vice-captaincy until he’s knows how to be a true leader.
Handanovic for captain next season
I choose Juan or Kovacic. Yes. They were young but they showing passion dan determination. Like their comment in derby. Rano cannot show that. I see both of them as a new JZ. Play as starter in young age.
I have only one simple question to all defending Ranocchia still should be a captain. How someone who with his performance doesn’t deserve even to be a starter, Juan and Vidic are far more solid, have to be a captain?
Certainly not.
Inter management have somewhat painted themselves into a corner choosing Rano as captain. If they change captaincy now, it will be very humiliating for Rano, and give bad vibes in the team. If they continue, Rano will be under continuing scrutiny and with his style of play (being diplomatic here), the critics will always be questioning his captaincy which will have a negative impact on the team. We need an unquestionable leader. In my view Rano should continue for now, and then the discussion should be revisited next summer, But if Inter receive an offer for Rano during January they should cash in, and then the problem would be solved once an for all. In the meantime, Handa should be vice captain and step in every time possible (instead of Guarin thanks). I think Handa as future captain would be a good solution. He’s a great keeper, and a captaincy would be a well deserved recognition, hopefully tying him even closer to the club.
good point, but the thing is, if we give the captaincy to handa, it’ll also give a clear message to bardi that he have to wait for his time! And i don’t think he will wait for another 2 year when there are many clubs willing to use him as their #1. Beside, I think this summer will be the last chance for us to sell handa in high price. But i will be very glad if he stay with us. Our defence is a mess.
How about we just sell him, problem solved.
At the moment no one in the team plays well. Morale is too low, performances are floppy, work rate is slow. We don’t have one player that is in form. Kovacic and Icardi have been struggling lately as well, Medel makes mistakes, Juan too. Hernanes keeps getting injured. But the blame falls on Rano cause he’s the captain. We all expect him to be like Zanetti, but our memories of Zanetti are those or a player with 20 years of experience behind him. Ranocchia does make a lot of mistakes, against Roma he played like a high schooler, but so did juan and Campagnaro. But we have seen him make spectacular things, too. All he needs is consistency. Which the whole team needs now. Since he’s joined Inter we’ve been struggling with often changes of coaches, new tactics, poor results, unhappy fans, etc. And you can see he’s nervous, but at the moment I think he’s still the best choice. And if Zanetti named him, he must have seen something in him.
We shud have kept cambiasso and gave him the captaincy. out of the current squad i would probably choose juan jesus over handa. nothing against handa but i think a captain shud be an outfield player

i knew this would be one of our problems, Letting Cambiasso go was just worst decision on this summer. smh

In this shit situation, we need a captain who can bring the fear to our enemy’s eyes but also can bring our players back to hungry mentality in critical moment just like vieira in arsenal and roy keane with MU. And ranocchia doesn’t fit that criteria at all. In fact, nobody does in our team right now. The closest one is juan jesus, but he is not there yet.

Juan just too young. Nagatomo just don’t have the characteristics as captain. while I’m out of words for Guarin.
if Palacio performing like last two season, I’d rather choose him to Ranocchia as a captain. played crucial role, high work rate, and played with determination. but now his performance just not good enough.
while Handanovic plays on high level at this moment, he is a GK. which mean he just stayed at the back for the whole game and it would be difficult (almost impossible) for him to ‘motivate’ his colleagues at front.
and then, the answer of above question, Ranocchia. well, I don’t thing he’s the right man. he’s the longest serving player, also I saw determination while he’s playing, he also italian, continuing the ‘holy 23’ number, almost ideal candidate for captaincy. but then he is just too inconsistent. sometime he just lost and clueless during the game. and how can you leading by example if you’re giving bad example?
so, to sum it up, we’re screwed. we’re in period when we don’t have any strong figure for captaincy.
there are other players who used to be captain for their former club, Vidic, Hernanes, and also D’Ambrosio. but they all new guys. you don’t give the armband to the new guys.
Ranocchia is far from ideal, but if we just stripped him straight away from the captaincy in the middle of season, after we changed coach, it will demoralized the whole team. so, we don’t really have an option for the captaincy at this moment. well at least , we should give it to Ranocchia until next season. unless he keep playing really bad, game after game.
But a lot of GK succeed as a captain, like Casillas, Kahn, and Zenga
well actually it’s just my personal preference.
and of course there are example for successful GK captain as you mentioned.
but in my opinion, ideally, I’d prefer a captain that really ‘involved’ both when the team move forward and when defending.
for example, your team trailing behind, and pressing high the opponent while the clock ticking.
meanwhile, the GK can only watching from distance their teammates battling for goals. it would be difficult for the GK to really ‘involved’ in the match and motivating/leading by example his teammates.

If you ask me this question, I would definitely say Ranocchia is our captain! There is nobody similar to his attitude at this moment. Making defensive mistakes that you blamed him was not just because of him. Yes, he did some mistakes, but most of the mistakes were due to other defenders’ (Vidic, Juan, Nagatomo…) mistakes and lack of capabilities of midfielders’. You cannot just say Rano is not our captain because he made mistakes!!! He’s been doing a good job in captaincy, and keep in mind that 11th position in the league was not just his mistakes. It was because of a scratch, idiot Mazzarri, and whole team’s mistake! I really hope Mancio will bring 2-3 significant players in January and we will finish the league in TOP3 and win Europa League. By the way, Mancio uses 4 defenders, so it would be better to play Danilo D’Ambrosio in the right wing, Rano-Andreolli in center back pair, and Juan Jesus in the left wing. We have to abolish defensive gap using D’Ambrosio-Ranocchia-Andreolli-Juan!!! Regarding winter transfers, I wish we bring Darmian, Lamela and Cerci

We should have kept cambiasso last season. Now there’s no one to guide this team, and as the result we have this poor mentality.
Regardless of his skills of players, i think yes he is. He has been chosen by Zanetti himself and agreed by all the lads proving he’s worthy enough for the arm band. Unfortunately He’s the most senior player in the team along with naga if im not mistaken.
Yes there are players who has better leadership skills (seemingly) such as vidic, hernanes, ambrossio because they were the captain in their previous club. But they are new guys. Naga? No way. Juan, he’s still unstable and too young for the position, it may creates jelousy or else. Handa? He’s not a leader type. He’s not talking much in the team or dressing room.
Rano still has much to prove to be acknowledge to hold the legacy of Zanetti, but I believe he will earn that as the time goes by. He’s no match to Zanetti’s charisma a leader, but he’s a gentleman as far as I heard about him.
Handanovic may be a quiet man but when Inter is playing I always see him yelling at the defense and organizing them.

Actions speak louder than words, mate. Rano has failed to translate his talks into bold actions on the pitch. He has been given so many chances to prove his worth. Moreover, a bad captain will drag the whole team down and unfortunately, Rano failed into this category because of his inconsistent forms.
IMO, a captain is someone that should be in the starting line up as much as possible.
The problem is, Rano isn’t kind of player that you want to put in the starting line up on every games.

No. Apart from he’s still lacking as a defender, he lacks determination and commanding authority over his teammates. This is crucial from a team like Inter, which is going through transition period(s). Missing that fighting spirit from what I see.
I’d like Juan to take over his place, albeit he’s too young for captaincy.
