In a lengthy interview with CalcioNapoli24, Goran Pandev, former striker of Inter and Napoli, today at Galatasaray, recalled Walter Mazzarri, his coach at Napoli: “He was a coach who gave me so much, when I arrived to Napoli I was not well physically and he is one who ‘breaks you’ and will ‘kill’ you with work in midfield. He told me that if I was not able to recover I would have to leave (laughs), that way I will always remember Mazzarri. I did not expect him to get fired. I know how it works, but Inter is a tough place and the fans are accustomed to always winning. It was not easy for him, many things have changed in the club and I’m sorry for him. I found out that this was the first time he was fired, I hope he comes back to coach as soon as possible.”
Pandev also spoke of the other coaches he had at Inter, starting from Rafa Benitez: “Mazzarri works in a certain way, Benitez in another. Both have won something, Rafa has won a lot but in the end they are two good coaches but different. Why Benitez struggled at Inter? To arrive after José Mourinho and the Treble would not have been easy for anyone, with Rafa we won two trophies out of three and then he left. Maybe he had some problems with the older players, I had a good relationship with him and was available without having problems.”
A word also on the Special One: “A great coach, he made me win everything and for a football player it is a dream to win what I won with him. He will remain in history.”
