icardi

Today Mauro Icardi spoke about his rise to fame to Futbolista Life.  Here is what the Argentine had to say:

“I feel good in Milano.  I have adapted well to both Inter and the city.  Having a lot of Argentine’s on the team helped without a doubt.  This year many of them [the Argentines] left. I chose Inter  because they are a great club and  I am happy to be here.  They did a lot to bring me here.  How was my time at Sampdoria?  This was my front door when it comes to football.  Although my last matches were tough, I still have many friends there and I know that they consider me as a good person.”

Icardi spoke about his time in Spain:

“I arrived there [in Spain] when I was very young.  I started to play for Vecindario in the Canary Islands when I was nine years old. All the memories I have are good ones and I am still close to many people there.”

Icardi also talked about a failed agreement with Real Madrid, who were interested in the Argentine as much as Barcelona at the time:

“Scouts from Real Madrid spoke to my parents.  Then I made a personal choice and decided to join Barcelona.   At Barcelona I was certain that I would improve and grow.  I left Barcelona because the club would not have facilitated my arrival into the first team.   I have great memories from La Masia. I learned how to play football there. Will I return to Spain? I only think about Inter and I want to grow with this team to achieve my goals.  My intention is to give all I can for my club.  At a great club like Inter there is always a lot of competition which is a good thing because it makes you give your best and it builds a winning mentality. The fans’ love is beautiful and amazing for me.  I am very grateful for their support.  I am happy and I appreciate the fans a lot.   I am not the type of player who feels a lot pressure. I work hard so I can grow and score as many goals as possible. There were many great Argentine strikers in Inter’s history. I find that I can relate to Batistuta the most.  Him and I share a similar playing style and characteristics. I admire the “number nines” but Batistuta has always been my idol. What are our Objectives? Inter is a great club, our objective is to do the best as we can. We have three competitions and we will try to go as far as possible and finish as high as possible. The competition we face is always very high. We must work hard to achieve our goals. Everyone likes to win trophies. Am I a phenomenon of world football? Fans know me well.  They call me a powerful striker, with a great amount of sacrifice and a good goalscorer. ”
