After Inter’s coup d’état signing of Xherdan Shaqiri today, the club is reported to once again be close to finalizing a deal. The BBC’s Carlo Laudisa took to Twitter this evening, or morning depending on where you tune in from, to express that Inter were close to finalizing a deal for Liverpool player, Lucas Leiva.

Editor’s note: Similar to the Podolski deal, this potential signing seems to be one that Inter fans are not all agreed on. With the Nerazzurri already boasting the likes of Medel and M’Vila in the defensive midfielder position, many wonder whether this money could be better spent elsewhere. Mancini can ask Carew or Rocchi, why we have management if he’s not there to approve who’s suit for club project and philosophy? Mancini gets Podolski and Shaqiri and that’s not bad at all for our financial situation and winter transfer window. We have more than enough midfielders Medel, M’Vila, Khrin, Kuzmanovic, Guarin and before we offload few of them i don’t think that we’re in a hurry to bring new one. And we have much bigger needs in other positions especially in defense and creative part of the midfield.
We have many in numbers but are they quality? We don’t know the full story. Inter may try to offload some of those names in this January. We may not need anymore creativity in midfield if Mancio wants to go for 4-2-3-1, but some defensive midfielders. Plus there is talk about getting back Thiago Motta. That guy is above all of those names mentioned above. Would u rather have Lucas and Motta, or Medel, M’Vila, Khrin, Kuzmanovic and Guarin?
Mark my words, it will be huge mistake if we buy this guy. Except his mediocrity, if you don’t believe me ask any random Liverpool fan what thinks about Lucas Leiva? Premier League players are overrated and overpriced, he’s not young talent, we have Medel, M’Vila, Khrin and even Taider. If i have to be honest i wouldn’t take him even on a free transfer.
i would take diarra for free and focus more on defence. we desperately need cb who would replace ranno and lb to replace dodo, dodo and ranno would be ok for subs. nastasic, rolando,…lb would be the hardest case + nobody wants to buy our players

Why dont you trade Vidic with Schar??? they would agree since this summer he goes away for free and they rather have an experienced defender for champions league now than loose Schar in summer for free!

We dont need to sign him bcuz we have mvila and medel. We need to sign defenders, a rb and cb and then we are all set to fight for 3rd place.

I rather see one or two defenders than this signing…..we are set in midfield but the backline is really weak….we need quality defenders like in the old days…..this is the weakest backline in Inters history!
I would say a centerback and a fullback would be a better choice than another Defensive midfielder currently, at least for the winter.
I bet Handanovic is begging for this too.
I think we need a player like Lucas Leiva. Thiago Motta would be even better choice. Medel and Lass Diara aren’t good at air balls

Take Diarra for free, then go spend for good RB and CB, maybe Danilo, Schar/Nastasic and Rolando.. We can gather money by selling Alvarez, Pereira, Kuzmanovic, Taider, and all the dead wood.. It must be more than enough..

The best option in my opinion : sell nagatomo and jonathan and kuzmanovic and palacio and andreolli ( if we are forced to ) and with the money of selling ricky and taider we can get r.rodriguez from woflsburg or darmian and a solid cb like howedes

Various sites have been mentioning a potential straight swap for Vidic.
Much as I’d prefer a new quality defender, whether that be a center back or a fullback, dumping Vidic’s salary for a more useful player who’s 5 years younger sure sounds great to me. Would give us more flexibility to sell one of our own mids as well.
That is just bullshit rumors. He would most likely never move to Liverpool, and even if he would, why on earth would they trade Leiva for Vidič.

We seem covered with Medel and M’vila. And I rate Medel very highly. I see him as a regular starter and unbelievably valuable. I think signing Leiva would be another piece of brilliant work by Ausilio and Mancini. They are looking for a better option than starting Kuzmanovic. I think Leiva would definitely bring some quality to the midfield. He’s someone who holds shit down in the back of the midfield who is strong defensively but also great on the ball. Medel on the other hand is ferocious defensively running around but I could really see Leiva pulling some strings from the back. He has been playing really well and regularly for Liverpool. I love Kuz but we all know he shouldn’t be starting for us. So make the move happen! We are on a roll!!
The money should be invested into a new solid defender, either Matija Nastasic, Fabian Schar or maybe both. I’m really worried every time I saw il Giraffa on the starting lineup, it’s just like he is planting a ticking bomb in front of Handanovic. Moreover, we already have Medel, Kuz, and Mvilla now, one of them should be sold first. Lucas was great before the injury, but i don’t know him very well today. A loan without an obligation to purchase at the end of term maybe ok. Use the money to sign players who are running out contract such as Schar, Konoplyanka, Ayew, Luiz Adriano. This is Inter that I’ve been wishing for, hopefully somebody will show this to Mancio or Ausilio lol
I’ve been saying this for weeks now: Go for cold blooded Konoplyanka and we are set for the coming YEARS on the wingers position. I know it’s gonna be difficult because many EPL teams want him, but he’s available on FREE and his market value is ~18m! Excellent investment would it be.
Schar is also cool and FREE, should replace Campagnaro/Vidic.
i think we need to sell Naga, Jhonny and Kuz ASAP. We need to bring Lass Diara for free and a right back.
