Mancini answered a mercato question regarding the defense from FcInterNews.it yesterday.
During the pre-Genoa press conference Roberto Mancini spoke to reporters and answered questions. While being his usual humorous and at the same time serious self, he did not rule out more signings. Knowing the team is playing in three competitions, with Juan Jesus’ ban, the coach alluded to needing squad reinforcements.
“Juan Jesus will be out for four games and it could be a problem, so we will see if there’s any chance to add to the defense.”

I don’t think that vidic will find his old form, there must be a reason he isn’t a starter for both wm and mancio..
Gino Peruzzi will be my choice for RB. There is not many great options out there for the FB positions these days but I think Perruzzi has the potential to be a new Zanetti for us. As for CB I go for Schar.

This! Mancini seemed interested in him when he was in galatasaray. The problem is river plate wouldnt permit his player go for loan.
We need CB and LB. And if at the end we get a Ch.L spot we will need DM and CF ( if Osvaldo and Palacio will leave ) and maybe RB if D’Ambrosio will not improve more.
I’m starting to get suspicious. Where’s all this money coming from? I read we’re ready to propose 15 mil for Mario Suarez. And now a defender too? I’m starting to think Thohir and Ausilio are going for broke and if we don’t qualify for CL we’ll have to sell half the team to meet the FFP rules. I’m not sure we should risk that much.
The way things were going before this, we weren’t qualifying anyway and still were gonna lose key players like Icardi and Handanovic at the end of the season because they wouldn’t sign new contracts right now. This could make them do it.

Ranocchia and JJ aren’t good enough to play the key roles as CB. JJ could grow to meet the standards needed, but for Rano I think the hope is gone.
I actually think Mancini should give Vidic a second chance. We all know what kind of game he’s capable of. And now it’s a different situation with a new formation, one that hopefully suits him better.
And why not try Medel as CB? He played that position for Chile in the world cup with great success, didn’t he?
Right now, I’d go for Vidic instead of Ranocchia, but don’t forget that the fact Ranocchia has the armband gives him an (unfair) advantage. Not that I expect Vidic to be great, but Ranocchia has been desperate.
As for Medel, he was good at the WC, but he played in a 3-man defense there. For a 4-man defense, the fact that he’s a bit short can be a problem, tall strikers will have a field day against him.
Captain’s armband shouldn’t be decisive, I think he never should have got that anyway. Just give it to Handanovic or someone instead.
Absolutely agree. Huge mistake to make him captain. Handanovic was a good option, and if not, I’d have kept Cambiasso, even at the price of not getting M’Vila. But that ship has sailed. 🙂
i think JJ should get the armband. because he’s is young and we’ll have him for a long time. and also I think that captain shoul be someone who plays in defence. beside that he has the most fighting mindset from all of our defenders
Yes, JJ has the proper mentality for that, but I’m guessing they never thought of him because of his age and probably lack of influence in the dressing room.

Yeah, pretty much. And he has been with the team for a long time now, you don’t want to give it to someone who just joined.
Btw, what kind of contract deal do we have with Vidic? Loan, or did we buy him? For how long?

All right, thanks for the info. Then i definitely think it’s worth to give him a proper chance under Mancini and his defensive formation. Then if we’re lucky and Vidic finds his game again, we won’t need to invest hard earned money in a new CB.
We will likely see him from the off in the upcoming match against Genoa – hopefully it goes well 😉
i agree. but i think JJ should be a starter regardless of couple mistakes he made. and medel should play cdm because he’s our best destroyer in the middle. he just needs a better player beside him
JJ can do wonders with a proper partner beside him that has the speed and anticipation to cover for him when he moves up the field.
Yeah, you may be right there. Maybe JJ would be good enough with the right partner CB.
And I agree that Medel does a good job as CDM, but at the moment the crisis seems to be at the CB position and maybe it would be easier to find a replacement for Medel in the CDM position. Maybe M’Vila?
Also a good point from Kristijan about Medel in Chile, three-man defense is another thing. And he is short, could be dangerous.
It’s more and more certain that M’Vila will be leaving at the end of the season, or even now if the proper offer comes in (Parma reportedly inquired, but M’Vila said no).
I’d be happy to see him return to form, but it doesn’t look like it’s gonna happen, at least not to the extent to convince Mancini to keep him.
Anyway, it seems Vidic is gonna start a game or two now that JJ is going to be out. Let’s hope he takes the chance and impresses Mancini. Then maybe Vidic and JJ could be the solution to the CB position further down the season.
Wait till end of season for Schar – actually think we might need 2 new CB – Jaun is a good starter but Rano and Andreolli reserves at best..Also need at least 1 new FB – Dodo and Danilo are good,yuto average ,Jonathan bad.
if we want schar we either should be talking to him now and tying up a summer move or tying up a move this month. we wait till the summer and he’ll be snapped up. there’s a real shortage of decent defenders nowadays—why do you think psg paid so much for david luiz? barca and matthieu? if we want schar we’ll have to fight for him. and it could be tougher than getting shaqiri tbh

Don’t know if we have the money to invest right now, I’d go for Nastasic now and get Schar in the summer, get rid of Campagnaro and Vidic in the meantime and keep Ranocchia and Andreolli as substitutes for next season, rotate JJ/Schar/Nastasic as primary starters.
Or better yet, sell Ranocchia too (because he is more or less marketable and I doubt he’ll accept the bench for a prolonged period) and buy someone else as an alternative.

So I’ve heard too, but I won’t rule out anything because of Mancio. If Mancini wants him, think there’s a good chance it can still happen.
After all, we’ve had countless of our own deals hijacked in the last minute.
The only question is – do we have money to spend on a defender?

It’s a fact that this team still requires a lot of investment, but we made some great moves this winter. I just hope we can keep the best players into next season (Handanovic, Icardi, Kovacic, to name a few that could leave if we don’t enter the CL). If we do, I have no doubt that Mancini will build a formidable squad.
definitely we must try to keep icardi, kova, handa and JJ and I would be very happy if harnanes and guarin will reborn. I am also worried about all the players we have to get rid of
I’m afraid we could lose Hernanes, doesn’t look to me like Mancini likes him very much, and if we’re honest he hasn’t shown he was worth the money we paid for him yet.
As for Guarin, I don’t expect him to change, he will always stay this maverick that does 10 stupid things and after that finds a pass that unlocks the defense and we score a goal. If Mancini is okay with that and can build a system that can take it, I guess I’m not one to object… 🙂
My hope is gone for Guarin. He’s too unstable. In some games he’s great, other days he’s the worst man on the pitch. Sell him I’d say.
i was really frustrated about guaro before,but it looks like mancini wants him.let’s wait and see what he can do with him
Now we can negotiate and sign preliminary contact, because he have only six months until his contact expires. That’s valid for both Schar and Konoplyanka.
