Several months ago we’ve all speculated about the acquisition of the all-known trouble maker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, since he didn’t make it in any of his former teams like Roma, Fiorentina and lately Juventus despite his obvious talent and eye for goal, and even at his foreign experience with Southampton in the English Premier League in which he punched their captain in the locker room, but Inter decided to gamble against all of this warnings and obvious big NOs and get him thankfully on loan.
Now Osvaldo, as expected, had made a situation at Inter too, causing the relationship between the Italian-Argentine Striker and the Milanese club to reach a no turning back point, so let’s have a look at this situation, analyse the reasons and actions leading to such a misery and work out a feasible way out of it.
Osvaldo joined Inter on a season long loan from Southampton with the option to buy at the end of season, he has been substantially good with the ball and useful for the team, actually better than expected too instead of going on punching his teammates (as he has done before on several occasions) or insulting his coaches, but it was just a matter of time before his true villain inside rose to rule over his body and act as the typical Osvaldo, the enemy of his own self.
During the last Juventus encounter at the Juve Stadium, Icardi failed to pass the ball to Osvaldo in a touch of selfishness from the youngster. That was not the problem, the problem was when Osvaldo decided to rush for his Argentine compatriot hurling insults on him and god knows what else would have happened if not of Guarin’s stance that prevented him from exaggerating the situation, resulting in harsh decisions from the Inter management and coaching staff in banning Osvaldo from joining the team in training forcing him to do it separately and deciding not to include him in the then next game against Genoa, and ending up by deciding that they don’t need him anymore and putting him on the transfer market.
The question here is: are we being unfair to Osvaldo?… In my honest opinion I think yes, after all he didn’t actually punch Icardi, he was rightfully frustrated at not being passed the ball in a great position to score the sitter in a game against your life long rivals, his actions after the game, in swearing at the coach and sprinting down to the locker room where he erroneously thought Mauro Icardi was in, of course, are significantly less forgivable, but didn’t we have similar incidents with that in the past?… (Materazzi & Balotelli, Ibrahimovic & Adriano).. And more importantly, are these sins so grave that he can’t come back into the team?
He got a perfectly reasonable punishments, But does this one hiccup immediately cost him his future at the club? Especially after being so good for the first six months of his spell, he’s a hot head we all can give him that, but we knew that when we signed him. What I did not expect, however, was quite impressive performances, For Inter now he has five assists and seven goals in 19 matches. That’s not just impressive, given the previous management, but genuinely dangerously good, he has at times served as the ‘tip’ of the team, a role which will now be fair to be dominated by Icardi, but he really impressed me in a more attacking midfield/forward role where he isn’t the sole player responsible for scoring goals for us, he is a real asset to our game that adds a lot of depth and needed experience to the team.
Now thinking about the team, if we sell him we will be left short in the attacking department with Palacio struggling in injury crisis since god knows when and even if he recovered, he is not the old known Palacio which is now more useful as a right wing, so we have only Podolski and Icardi in that position, in addition to the untested unexperienced youngsters in Bonazzoli and Puscas (who are linked with Genoa too in the recent days) but I really don’t expect them to be given much of a chance to claim that for their own. The next few days is really crucial for Osvaldo that if resolved properly we could have a potentially great player who could do an effective job for us on our hands. Remember, Osvaldo’s temper affects his price, by no means is he an €8 million player now. That being said, there is the inherent risk that this could boil over, and at the same time, a permanent transfer is a very different story now that we cannot help ourselves with.
What we can do now is just wait and see where this goes in the next few days, with lots of possibilities rumoured from an Osvaldo-Quagliarella or Osvaldo-Darmian or even Osvaldo-Destro swap to his return to Boca Juniors or even staying at Inter after refusing so many offers from lowly Serie A sides like Torino and Cagliari.
What do you say of this case, and what is the best possible way out?

I think it is all good arguing for Osvaldo based on what we saw but I think you forgot the most important part of the whole affair. What we didnt see. The stuff on the ground was heated and passionate and can happen but the fact that Osvaldo held on to the anger, that he stormed off after Icardi after the whistle and disrespected Mancini after the whistle. Then there are the rumours and stories of an angry bust up in the locker rooms where Osvaldo remained his aggressive self. The details have never been released but there is little doubt something went down.
It is all good to hail Osvaldo for his passion and his correct indignation after a pass was not forthcoming from Icardi, Ronaldo, 100 times the player of Osvaldo, was equally angry at Bale for not passing recently but after screaming and gestulating a bit let it go, same with Ibra we have all seen him get angry at teammates for not passing but never take it to such an extent. Both are far superior players too. Even in that exchange Podolski was coming up on Icardi’s left and would have been in better position to shoot than Icardi was, he too was angry but remained professional.
Whatever his record, a team that is being rebuilt does not need a player like Osvaldo causing problems. This is particularly important now as Inter have bought both Podolski and Shaqiri who would have leapt past him in the pecking order, further reducing his game time and increasing his frustration. He simply has to go.

Good piece buddy, but as much as I’d like to see Osvaldo continue given his usefulness for us so far, but discipline is what makes teams, and if you forgive him once, he’ll do it again & again as the case with Ibra & Adriano..remember the Mourinho days, no matter how good you are, if you lose your head (or shirt as Balotelli), you’re out!
you guys have forgotten something so crucially important about the Osvaldo hessyfit, it was not the FIRST sitter Icardi have denied him, we have two good players in Icardi and osvaldo however, Icardi denied him a sitter, he did at the lazio game and once gain in Rome, you cant possibly judge him on the factor reason behind his rage, was it to revenge or if it was the chance of his life to be an Inter great, simply because the rage itself was WRONG, in no possible way acceptable, thats end of the story, i wonder after all happened how much effort Osvaldo is putting to show love for inter…is he fighting for his shirt?? … with all that been said.. i also genuinly hope he stay.
how can people forget that osvaldo did this twice before? targeted naga in tow different matches with the same behavior and i m sure the club warned him in the tow mentioned accident which left the club with the only right thing to do and they did it
what do you see in this guy? under zeman he had 10 goals in 20 games and 6 of them were headers ! when he left and andreazzoli took over he had 1 goal in 10 games. Then Zeman mocked him on a Thursday and that weekend he scored a hat trick – 4 goals in 11 games. he is lazy and worse yet, mental – he needs to be on a team with Ibra so that Ibra can whip his ass !
He got mad and for a good reason. Thats a winning mentality that we need. After the suspension he should be back on train ingen. Simple!
Outstanding article

Very Good article. Kudos to you. But I disagree with you when you say “to score the sitter in a game against your life long rivals”. For Osvaldo it was a chance to score a sitter against a team that gave him little play time and did not want to sign him last year after a loaning him. A personal revenge. That was not passion for inter shirt or anything like that.
Now this is my opinion on the issue. There is not leadership in the looker room right now. This is something normal in a team that is having a reconstruction like inter is; Zanetti, Cambiaso, Samuel, they are all gone. Mancini knows this and he knows ho dangerous it is to have a disruptive personality in a group that is just forming. So, I think he rather risks to be short on a extra striker than losing the whole group. Osvaldo is not going to change. Rumor has it that he already apologized, but I haven’t seen the video. Have you guys? In my opinion he needs to apologize in public to the coach to the fans and to his teamates. That is the normal thing to do (Icardi did it after the game). He hasn’t done it because he is a real jerk and probably because he think he was right to do that. Could you guys imagine what would have happened if he had found Icardi in the dressing room after the game? I am sure he run to the dressing room after the final whistle just to face Icardi before the rest of the group. Thanks god Icardi was not there.
I agree with you to the fact that this team doesnt have a strong leader yet and osvaldo could ruin this team by his ego and hot head. But if the management wants to offloam him i hope they can get a good replacement. We are sort of striker for god sake. If dont then it gonna weaken our attacking department. I dont want to see Rocchi part II
I don’t think Osvaldo is necessarily worth the fuss that players like Adriano, Matrix and Ibra were at times… he’s good but he’s not that level of good
An excellent article… At last this site is starting to make sense!
You’ve said pretty much everything, but yes, Osvaldo was wrong, the suspension was adequate to show him he cannot afford to to that again, he reportedly apologized and now should be allowed back in the team because I don’t think it’s a good option for us to get rid of him considering the lack of better options.
We’d be left with no alternative that is currently as good as he is.
A swap with Quagliarella is out of the question. A swap with Destro is unrealistic (given Dani’s turbulent past with Roma and the price tag they’ve applied to Destro, also the fact that we’re a rival club)
Finally, I hope we’re not using this to get rid of him because it would make our financial predicament easier.
If you want to trade Osvaldo or Hernanes for that matter, trade them with Lazio’s Felipe Anderson, he is 21 and have you seen his skills? Insane! Since Podolski is on loan I really hope that we can get him upfront left wing! What do you guys think?
that’s not such a bad idea at all man. however osvaldo may not be up for going to Lazio considering he was a Roma player in the past. On the other hand he played for Juve last season and he’s with us now so you never know
He is a mercenary he will go anywhere. Rumor has it that he wants to go to Milan
Of course he wants to go to a “big” team, such as milan or roma, rather than genoa, torino and cagliari.
I think, with Osvaldo we could do great in both Europa League and serie a, but if he leaves, then we should stick for Seria A and only!
exactly 😉 he hates Roma
