International Champions Cup 2014 - FC Internazionale v Real Madrid

After the confirmation of Juan Jesus’s 3 match ban, the defender had some words to say on his Facebook profile.

“My fellow Inter fans, and all football fans.  I would like to say a few things about the confirmation of the three-match ban that I will serve because of the incident that occurred during the game in Turin on January 6.  I waited for a couple of days to respect the work of the judge and to allow those to observe things with greater clarity.”

“First, I apologize for my gesture, it was completely unintentional, and was the force of which I accidentally hit another player.  I was looking at the ball that came in from a corner.  I wanted to protect myself.  I did not even see the Juve defender arrive.  If you look at the pictures, I did not take my eye off the ball.  How can I hit an opponent without looking?  Because of this, I was expecting a different decision, especially having noticed that other acts of much greater gravity have been dealt more leniently.  This is not fair.”

“Secondly, I apologize to my teammates and the Inter fans. What hurts me the most is knowing that I will not be able to be with them for the upcoming games.  Leaving them hurts more than any ban.”

“Finally, a necessary consideration must be made.  I said that I did not hit my opponent on purpose.  I even told him at the final whistle.  He is a player who has repeated this many times in his career: What happens on the pitch remains on the pitch.  Here, I saw him go on television and “ask” for me to get banned.  To ask for a colleague to get punished really upsets me. Hearing him call the Judge to see if I got banned was a very bad example of sportsmanship, class, and style. It was an even worse gesture than a real elbow blow. And I thank him for this. Today I am more of an Interista than I’ve ever been.”
