The front pages of the Italian sports papers have begun to make their way to news stands and the “Gazetta dello Sport” has used some space to talk about Inter, despite their match having been played on Saturday. The paper analyzes some of the difficulties that the Nerazzurri encountered during their disappointing performance against Empoli. Moreover, the headline reads “Inter struggling to play. Mancini’s sees Kovacic as regista”.

Frankly speaking right now our main problem is not on the midfield, we can try to use hernanes to be pair with medel and kovacic as trequarista, our main issue is the defense. They can’t even defense or make a simple short pass aside from passing back to the goalkeeper and expect the goalkeeper’s long kick magically went straight to our strikers. The wingbacks are also a sore to see they dont provide width and good crosses which make the opponents not worry and give no pressure, the attack is too predictable. With our poor backline not even the regista can make play, even pirlo would look bad playing for our team. Every time the opponent press up, the defenders would be always passing back to the keepers or making stupid error, conceding some throw ins or corner kick. We really do need some confidence in the backline to win games
Stop confusing this guy, regista, trequartista, left winger. He has played all those position but he is best at playing in a 3-man midfield to the left like Iniesta where he can drop down and get the ball deep and accelerate with the ball and even if he looses the the ball the DM/regista would be behind to cover the counterattack. We also need a real regista with great passing skills both short and long range passes. All three midfield players should posses good passing skills and technical abilities. Get rid of Medel and Guarin from the starting eleven. Hernanes and Kovacic as CM and until we get a real regista let Kuz play there. 4-3-3 formation.
But kuzmanovic is slow to be a DM to cover counterattacks. They can try krhin in training. Medel is at least good defensively.
Kovacic should play regista with a player on each of his sides. Only there, under strama, has he played at his best. He likes to get the ball deep, run forward and play a simple pass or a throughball. Hernanes best position is trequartista. Why cant anyone see this? Inter should focus on those two players as they are the creative force in inter. Kovacic and hernanes can exchange positions in a couple of years when kovacic is more adept. My best choice would be to play a 4-3-1-2
I think Kovacic more suitable as Trequerista because he is the best dribblerer in Inter now although he need more work to create more deadly throughpass. When Inter opposed Empoli last week that empoli played tight press and each of their player tirelessly which is really hurt us. I thought to overcome same situation we need play wider and player with good dribble can be decisive for our Inter. In my opinion Hernanes more suitable as Registra
oddly enough, i think Hernanes should be the trequerista because he cant run, and Kovacic shouldnt be either. he should be a third midfielder in a 442 or 443.. he wont flourish in a 4231
Well in my opinion most of Registra doesn’t have to run and more distribute Ball.
Wrong, he has to run to help the defence and his midfield partner.. not everyone is Pirlo where is positional sense is exceptional and has Vidal running like a dog for him
Why we struggled against Empoli?
1. Without Ranocchia, Inter struggled more in defense.
2. Hernanes and Guarin could not possess ball.
3. Palacio was useless and could not offer more to Inter.
4. Poldi was so lazy.
5. No midfield support to lone striker Icardi
5. Too late inward subs for Shaqiri and Kovacic.
6. Overall team spirit and physical condition were “SHIT”
The first think Mancini should do is to lift the team spirit. He also should bring a decent holding midfielder to replace Guarin. He should rely on Kovacic as long as Hernanes performs better than Kovacic.

I prefer hernanes too for more fluidity in midfield, and contributing to balance.
I disagree with two things, One Ranocchia made the team more nervous in the first half and we should replace with new defender. Two, Hernanes is good but hes not the type to run and up down, he offers solutions in the last third, so we must have faith. i think this formation is a problem for Kovacic cuz i liked him as third midfielder in 442 diamond or a 433
And our RB really hopeless. Last match against Empoli we should play wider and our WB should contribute with more side attack to their bothside. Actually Palacio is really off against empoli it is unfortunate we change Icardi to soon
The problems are originating for RB.
A common criticism of Podolski at Arsenal was that he was good with the ball. Not so much with runs and link up play.

I believe Kovacic is too good to be played in the midfield only to distribute the play , he should be played right behind the attackers as a CAM …a playmaker………period

Kovacic hasn’t played as a regista basically since the Stramaccioni days. Not for Inter, at least.
Besides, a regista is difficult to imagine in a 4-2-3-1 system. Registas are more common in 3-man midfields, as they are highly mobile and move around the pitch a lot, leaving the only other midfielder alone and exposed. Also, if Kovacic is a regista in 4-2-3-1, who gets to play behind the striker and what will his role be?
This does make sense if Mancini goes for a 4-3-3 with Podolski and Shaqiri as wide attackers and Kovacic between Medel/Suarez as ball winners and Guarin/Hernanes as box to box midfielders.
I’m not sure what italians called regista, i guess something like Pirlo in Juventus. But one thing that I’m sure is that Kovacic doesn’t feel well like trequarista or what i called behind the strikers ant that’s more than obvious. He needs more space to accelerate the game, making his runs and looking for his trough balls. And for trequarista required good shot, good finishing and scoring instincts. Thats much more suitable role for Hernanes and Shaqiri. Probably Mancini have to change the system with 4-4-2 with diamond with Guarin/Medel in front the defense (if i have to be honest I’m disappointed with Medel, doesn’t do enough in defense making tackles, interseptions and etc. and he’s awful when goes to transition and passing the ball forward. I believe that M’Vila is much better player than him, but that’s my opinion) Kovacic as a left midfielder, Hernanes right and Shaqiri behind strikers Icardi and Podolski/Palacio.
Medel makes many crucial interceptions. I agree with you that his transition to attack isn’t good, and he makes short simple passes. But that is also due to the fact that positioning of defense line is still not perfect in my opinion. So he has to provide additional cover to those who are caught out of position at times, and so, he too, gets out of position.
I think medel is the only midfielder who perform in the game between empoli, at least he tried and ran to make interception, guarin and hernanes is too lazy to track back, and they are also not good to link up the play
better decide what’s Kovacic best position is. He’s not yet adapted to the trequartista…
