The transfer saga between Inter and Lucas Leiva has continued through the Winter mercato and Brendan Rogers has once again weighed in on the subject in favour of Liverpool keeping the player. The coach said: “We must look forward with the young people; however, they also need to be surrounded with experienced players. You cannot play with just youth and that is why we want to keep players like Glen Johnson and Lucas Leiva.”

Keep it forever. Real already signed Lucas Silva for 13 million and we’re going to pay 10 for this guy. He’s good player, but nothing special and over him prime. I’m sure that we can invest 10 millions much better. If we can’t find someone who really will make the difference, better playing to the end of the season with Medel, Guarin, Hernanes and Khrin.
If he is a deeper lying ”regista” type midfielder, then he and Hernanes can compete for the midfield role, beside Medel. But, I think we need a midfielder who can be box-to-box with better decision making than Guarin. In that sense, Suarez would be better.
I say this, because, Medel makes us too defensive as it is. If Kovacic were to probe forward to find/open spaces/ be in the box, another midfielder in the final third/ just outside the six yard area, can hold up ball/play/ or provide options for Podolski and Shaqiri, apart from the overlapping fullbacks.
I guess Mancini wants Suarez because he is bigger, stronger and better in aerial duels [remember Vieira/Motta heading ability].
But Lucas/Paulinho on LOAN+option to buy would be great, because we would not risk anything. And I expect new apportunities to arise in summer.
