Roberto Mancini seemed almost exhausted when appearing in front of Sky’s microphones after the 2-2 draw against Napoli. “Icardi too cocky? It is one of his strengths, it does not bother me at all. In my career I never attempted to chip a penalty and I didn’t even see the goal live, I saw it just now on the monitor. You have to expect a few dangerous chances when you play against great attackers like we did today, the problem is that we lose the ball too easily and they were expecting it. We were down 2-0 without understanding why. They scored two great goals and we were not paying attention, that’s football. When we stop conceding goals, we can even win games like these. We lack several things to improve, this is one of them. And at the end we should have gone for a decisive third goal”.
Did you like Shaqiri tonight?
“I liked everyone, except when we give away possession too easily. It is worthless to only defend, because sooner or later they will score. At least we played football tonight. Is it better to play Shaqiri as an attacking winger? I see all the positive things that the players do during the week’s training sessions. In the first half, he recovered at least eight or nine balls on the flanks, and this is what we wanted. He also had a goal scoring opportunity. But we played against Napoli, not some minor team. The great thing about football is that everyone can view it as they want”.
Did Hernanes change the outlook of the team?
“We could already have equalized through Icardi after Palacio’s 2-1 goal. And then through D’Ambrosio. We have to improve in the defensive phase, that’s for sure. We need to keep working hard. To improve takes time”.
What error must not be repeated against Wolfsburg?
“As a team they are very similar to Napoli: they share the ball well and they have four great attacking players. Hopefully we will have some chances to score, but it will be a very difficult game”.
Is Santon a certainty in defence?
“He had a tough time in the first half because he left too much space to Mertens and I even considered taking him off. Then in the second half he played much better on the left wing and as the game developed he did very well”.
Guarin a little less impressive?
“He lost two or three balls by overdoing things, but I liked him. I didn’t love him, I love another kind of… (laughs). I love women. But Guarin is a player who we can not be without”.

Maybe i am too optimistics for others, the way i see that the team were actually growing, this is a young team, with limited experience asside poldi which doesn’t give many contribution, by all means if we compare to juve you could see the last match was improvement… And also we didn’t have the same quality in the bench… So we must try to adjust the tempo and build up play while also keeping the confidence of the players… One lose match can give multiple effect for the team
Truthfully, the entire team is shit. no leader, no champion except Poldi and Shaq, JJ is not that good and doesn’t seem to be learning, we need at least 9 new players in June. Champions people who have won and leaders
We were so lucky to get away with that one! The most frustrating thing though was that after we equalised and they had a player sent off we tried to hang on for the draw instead of driving forward for the win. It was disgraceful. Despite us getting two goals back, forcing Napoli onto the back foot and them having a player forward we tried to slow things down. I am certain if we had ramped up the pressure in those last 6 or 7 minutes we could have scored. Disappointing. Also it is all good to solely blame our defence for everything but they were left exposed over and over and over again just like they were against Fiorentina. We play a super high backline and then out midfield loses the ball constantly. You simply cannot afford to do that because it means the opposition are running at a team who are backpedaling with acres of space in behind them. No defender is comfortable in that situation. Guarin’s head was not in the game at all, Brozovic is not getting the interchange of play that he does so well, Medel can be too slow in transition and is often overrun and the forward are too often caught looking for the ball in behind rather than coming short to offer a passing option. They need more dynamism and movement to speed up the transitional play. With all that said it is good to get at point at the end of the day!
i agreed that for the first time, Inter’s midfield is most to blame for all the trouble. that’s the engine room that was kept cold the entire 1st half. i almost gave up after Napoli score their 2nd and for RM still stuck without any crucial subs yet to make even after 2 goals down. And the 2nd, its the mentality. These has to chance. This is Inter. The players better get to know these sooner or later.
in almost everymatch this season with Mancio, we always play with high backline. idk why he keep choose that tactics despite our slow defender. and for mid, I guess with 3 mid, only Medel and Medel who focus on getting back to help defence, Guarin sometimes focus on helping attack department.
I can’t believe how poor we are at the back. Rano and JJ are probably the worst defenders in Seria A. I don’t know what you like in JJ. He is clearly a very bad defender. The worst positioning I have ever seen. Rano no comments
shut up
It was the lifeless midfield that was the problem. the defensive line were much too high even when Inter seems to play out counter attacking game which left us 0-2 down in quick session. This need to be address fast before game vs Wolfsburg.
I love him because he got balls to spell clear name to be critize, not like the clown who always try to hide mistakes and pretend everything is fine…
Wow. Guarin is a player who we cant be without…..
What error must not be repeated against Wolfsburg?
what about stop give them space to move? stop using excuse ‘they tired’. Napoli players got more run than our player and they already play in copa and they have to play again in EL this week
rano, juan, two center back, two disasters… anyone disagree?
Tonight Rano was much better.
actually I mean the whole season. We only have one reliable CB, andereolli, And this is mainly because he does not play a lot…. All other CB, disasters through the entire season. They may have good performance once a while, but then they fail. In Italy, how you can win the title without a good defense?!
JJ has been horrible this season, but the main problem is the DM, Medel is pretty mediocre, he leaves the defense exposed all the fucking time and his only job is to defend, but he loses almost every physical duel, aerial ball and isn’t even fast.
We desperately need a good DM and a solid CB to partner with Ranocchia or two CBs but that’s not realistic.
Medel is totally fine and very important for us -_-
I agree, medel has been solid ,but he can’t do everything.
ah come on, as if one dm can save and protect our whole defense. they need whole midfield for cover, not just one player.
defense is not just about individual defender, you have to defend as a team
Of course, but there are too many individual mistakes. The second goal is beacuse of Juan ‘s bad position. The guy looked at the ball instead of man marking . Ameture mistake
I disagree the way i see things are the midfield were not giving much help in defense play. They are the hot prospect for inter budgets… If budget’s aren’t limited then it will be different case…
Mancini’s substitutions are way too late…Brozovic and Guarin were absolutely shit tonight ……its unfair to bench Hernanes for that long and never substitute Guarin nomatter how bad he was fuckinup…give us a break Mancini !!!!….absolutely lucky draw….Napoli deserved to win …………Forza Inter
Mancini it’s yout job to make the changes we need and to prove that you’re better choice than Mazzari. Everybody can say whatever he wants, but i believe that we have good enough players for qualifying Europa League. To the end of the season, there’s no more room for mistakes and excuses. We have to start winning and reaching Europa League spot, otherwise will be huge failure.
But we only played good after the first goal. Before that, we had no clue. He must make the team play with such spirit from the start. This same stuff of not playing with full spirit from the start has been happening for some time now, under Mancini and Mazzari.
Your right.I see the same mentality now we actually find a response instead of caving in as we did under Mazzarri but it’s similar no doubt.People said they think santon should be man of the match? He only started playing in the 2nd half.Mertens became tired i believe but before he had Santon all over the place, with that being said he really did look good joining in attack and is by far the best full back at the club presently.
