Inter full back Davide Santon has been speaking to SportMediaset in an interview at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti today.

Here are the Inter youth product’s words:

The Derby?

“We put in a brilliant performance against AC Milan, the team played well and we deserved to win. Sadly the goal wouldn’t come and we might have had a penalty. There was a wonderful atmosphere, the ground was full and we hope that will be the case for our upcoming matches.”

Inter’s current form?

“We’re still trying to gel, a lot of new players have come in and the team is completely different to the Inter side I played in four years ago. We’re trying to give the team a new identity and the coach is working on that too. Back then we had big leaders like Zanetti and Cambiasso, but I think equally good players have joined like Vidic, who played for a number of years at a top club. That said, you need time to settle in, it’s not easy. The same goes for Shaqiri and Brozovic for example. We need a bit of time, we have to be patient.”

Your future?

“The coach and the club know what they’re doing in terms of transfers, we’ll see. I’ve played against Yaya Touré and when Manchester City won the title he scored a brace at St. James’ Park. He impressed me and he’s still a great player with pace and ability that can win games.”

Roberto Mancini?

“The manager is a lovely man. He talks to the players a lot and he’s won things wherever he’s been. I think he’s the right man to take us forward.”

President Erick Thohir?

“He’s an extra pair of hands in terms of how we approach games, he lets us get on with it and doesn’t put pressure on us.”

Finally, your second spell at Inter so far?

“I don’t know what I’d give myself out of 10, I think I’ve done my bit for the team. I joined after a spell of injuries, where I’d been out for nine months. I didn’t think I’d start and yet I went straight into the team. Obviously I’ve always been fit. My fitness levels have dropped slightly but that’s normal after a run of consecutive matches. But for now I’ve not really done anything in terms of helping the team. Europe is now some way off but there are still a lot of matches to play between now and the end of the season. We have to try and win as many games as we can to improve the team’s mentality.”
