Inter coach Roberto Mancini has been giving his opinion in his post match press conference after seeing Juventus take advantage of two Inter mistakes to come from behind to win the Derby D’Italia.
Here is what the tactician had to say:
“Sadly mistakes happen in football. Sometimes you lose because of them and sometimes you win thanks to them. You have to accept that.”
“We created lots of chances in the first half and deserved to extend our lead but instead we found ourselves level at the break. Obviously when you play games at this level, one good half is not enough.”
Inter’s chances of qualifying for Europa dramatically reduced?
“Yes, the Europa League is clearly much further away from us after this game. We have lots of work to do to build a team with experienced, quality players who can lift the side in matches like this simply because they’re used to playing in them.”
A game that could have been won or lost with errors?
“As I said, mistakes happen. We could have been more careful with our possession on the first goal.”
The shape of the team in the 2nd half?
“I switched to a three-man defence because we were finding it hard to press our opponents high up the pitch and we needed our wide men further forward. We managed to do that with Nagatomo on a couple of occasions. But if we create chances then we have to take them.”
Inter in the future?
“When you have top quality players they help raise the others’ awareness. When a youngster plays alongside a world class player he has to push himself harder and he slowly improves, along with everyone around him. Everything improves.”
Is there a San Siro problem?
“It does weigh on you. We should win all the time here but instead we struggle. The stadium should be our fortress but we’re not incisive enough. We should be winning nearly all our games here.”
There’s a big gap between Inter and Juventus in the table?
“The real difference isn’t that great, as you could see in the two matches we played. They’re the best team at the moment but if we do a good job in the transfer market we’ll keep growing.”

So you will trust a central defence of, Vidic-Rannochia? and Murillo who nobody knows how good is. Hmm.. Its a bit risky, we need to build from behind, and make a good partnership in the defence, just like we had in Lucio-Samuel, just look at Juve, Chellini-(Barzagli)-Bonucci they played toghetter for years and they are like one of the best defence in europa. We need to build something like that and i dont think a partnership with Vidic-Rano is the way to go.
Juan-Murillo could be a good start… but we need to sell ‘il girafa’ rano, i cant stand looking at him and see he is our captain..
back Medel as CB will be good option, he have better pace, Vidic and Rano fail with them pace, Medel and Murillo or Juan and Murillo will be good options and Rano and Vidic for back up! We need better player infront we are Number 1 in Seria A about changes created but we are 8 place? We need better striker than Palacio and better mid than Guaro and better creative defence mid than Medel who play better in CB see him performance at World Cup! We can get Thiago Motta for min cost if Medel go to CB:
4-3-1-2
———————–Cech/Bardi——————
Darmian/Dambrosio Ranocchia/Medel – Vidic/Juan/Murillo Dodo/Santon
——————–Thiago Motta/Allan————————

———————Shaqiri/Hernanes————————–
——Icardi/Palacio – Jovetic,Pedro or Lamela/Puscas——-
4-3-3

–Shaqiri/Hernanes – Icardi/Puscas – Jovetic,Pedro or Lamela/Palacio—
This guy is clearly delusional! We was fined because of FFP with 20 million euros! We can afford to spend like Manchester City, when despite this money waterfall, he barely win one title in England in last minute of the season and failed miserably in Europe. You’re not a manager, you’re just a coach and will be good if you first learn how to make proper substitution, before insisting for expensive players. I don’t understand our fans, who insisted for instant success spending big money for old, expensive players, without any grantees for success. And without thinking that our club have loss over 80 million euros for last few seasons and that can last any longer.
Way tooooooo many mistakes. We need to get rid of Palacio at the end of tze season, and use Vidic, Medel as a subs next season, they clearly are not first 11 material
Yaya and Motta…Yihaaa
I like how he keeps mentioning quality experienced players and world class players… not a team built on youngsters with no experience. Thohir about to open that pocket up in the summer! Pedro and Yaya please
We really need a whole other team…
Handanovic, Juan, D’Ambrosio, Santon, Medel, Brozovic, Kovacic, Shaqiri, Hernanes, Icardi are players I want in my team.
Agree on all of them except Medel, and I have second thoughts about D’Ambrossio
medal would be a better cb. He is quicker than ours, he is tactically smart, a good tackler and has very little ability to spring attacks. If we played hIm at cb I would keep him in my team.
Actually, he has played as a Libero CB in a 3 man defense with Chile several times and he succeeded. So you’re right on that. I honestly think that if he was surrounded by better players, he would improve drastically, that goes for all Inter players. Unfortunately, that is not the case.
This is the most annoying fallacy. The guy is 170cm FFS. Also Medel is the last player I’d want making challenges in the box. With his complete lack of composure, we’d give away a penalty per game.
Medel has upper level defending instincts so if he were to drop in between 2 CB’s to cover or set up play from the back it would be a good idea.
Bayern did it with Xabi Alonso against Barca. Medel is a better defender and is less likely to play forwards onside for easy goals.
Medel is not Xabi Alonso. Medel is less capable than Rannochia, JJ and Vidic at setting up play from deep. He has no vision and poor passing skills. Also the 3 man defense is horribly outdated and not viable for a team looking to challenge any major league in Europe.
This is a simple concept. Having a midfielder drop deeper when you have possession forces the defense to close out with their midfielder which opens up space. It’s a numbers game.
This is not a 3 man defense. Medel is more than capable of passing to players in space. He’s been in the first XI all season because he has consistently connected defense to midfield with his quick passes.
What games do you watch to say Ranocchia and Vidic set up play better. And Medel has poor passing skills, what? He is no Xabi Alonso but he is tidy in possession and accurate.
My grandmother could be tidy in possession and accurate if she never risked a difficult pass or failed to have the vision/awareness to identify a pass that might actually open the play.
Lo.. Have you forgotten Ivan Cordoba?
No. Cordoba was an exception to the rule. He is slightly taller than Medel, has far greater composure and is much stronger in the air than Medel. Schar is the right option for CB along with Rannochia.
Agreed. Medel is a nothing player. D’Ambrosio is a decent squad player. I’d also consider moving on Juan. Far too inconsistent and does lack quality. Swap him with Rannochia.
what are guys talking about?..Medel is a great dm…those two at the back are inter real problem
Havar, You seems ignorant when it comes to rating a player like Medel. he is a great DM. Just because you don’t know how to appreciate the players who do the dirty work instead of doing the flashy things, does not mean he is a nothing player. Please.
Please. Personal attacks instead of addressing the argument. Grow up mate.
Can certainly appreciate the defense oriented players who do the work that allows the more creative players to express themselves. In fact the players I despise the most are the flashy selfish ones incapable of fitting into a system at the detriment of the team overall. Shaqiri comes to mind.
I am truly saddened by this lost. However I see promise for the next season. Ppl are saying juve played with a reserve team I’m still trying to find out where that side played because that wasn’t a reserved team . Yes three starters were missing but also for us. All I heard and read was about the missing juve players but what about ours!!! We need in the future to put these games to bed early
They weren’t missing three starters… they only used three starters
Not making excuses, but we didn’t have Hernanes and Guarin (as much as people dislike him, he is a great asset to this team)
I agree with you that maybe we were not full strength but I honestly think Mancini got this wrong. Subbing shaq was a mistake
Definitely
I hardly believes Guarin can make any difference in that game. I rather bet Gnoukouri to do better. What’s missing was a talisman. Maybe because of Hernanes suspension.
