Mauro Icardi has been speaking to Inter Channel ahead of Inter’s last match of the season against Empoli on Sunday night (kick off 20:45 CET).
Here are the words of ‘Maurito’:
The match against Empoli?
“We’ve got one match left and we need to try and get the three points. We have to do as well as we can because you never know what’s going to happen. As luck would have it, we have a tiny chance to qualify for Europe and we hope to take advantage of it.”
How do you feel about the prospect of finishing as Serie A top scorer?
“Of course I think about the scoring charts. I try to do as well as possible and I was disappointed to have two goals chalked off against Genoa. For a young forward like myself, being the top scorer in Serie A would be a great thing. Luca Toni and Carlos Tevez have done really well, but seeing as they’re facing each other this weekend maybe I’ll be able to make the most of it. I hope to get the goals.”
The support of the Inter fans and the club’s new kit for next season?
“The fans have shown that they’ll always support us, even though the season hasn’t been the best. I’m sure that the stadium will be a great sight on Sunday with lots of people there, especially seeing as we have the new kit and need to create a good vibe for next year.”

Scoring +20 goals by 21 year old kid in Serie A is awesome. He is a great talent and can become a new Batistuta. Many clubs are interested in signing him by offering at least 4-5 million a year. So, extending his contract and increasing his salary was an inevitable decision for Inter management. I thank Inter management for extending Icardi’s contract. Inter management are happy. Fans are happy. Icardi is happy. Maurito, please keep up your good work and score over 25 goals next season! Good luck boy.
This guy is competing for top scorer and some fans don’t want him to get a 3.5 mil salary, hell he’s being modest asking for that much!
Couldn’t agree more.
i disagree, paying high at early age kills the player motivation…. i’d would rather adjust the contract and give him bonuses based on his performance. though i dont mind paying him the bonus he asked for this year.!
the better your perform the more money you get, win win case, but like this if he fails to perform next year other players who perform better will will feel unhappy being paid less when they are performing better, and will affect the overall atmosphere among players, my opinion!.
Because that isn’t happening now??? Palacio and vidic get a 3.2 m salary! Icardi is getting 1 mil! Heck most of our players are getting more than icardi! And your method would just make icardi leave… thank god you’re not in management.
Wait Icardi got a raise right? Sorry my bad
totally agree, plus he´s still only 22 years old!! Where did Zlatan f.x play his football at that age – Agero, Neymar etc…
well, neymar at age 22, already playing at high level for barcelona.
zlatan at age 22, protagonis in ajax, won league tittle, scored 5 goals in the UCL (eliminated by bbilan who ended up became champion), top scorer for the team, got goal of the year from eurosport.
aguero at age 22, playing his best season in atletico, scoring 20 goal which made him scored 100 goals for atletico since 2006. he also made debut in the national team at age 18, and always got called up after that.
if you’re comparing Icardi to those 3 players, well, Icardi at age 22, surely behind them all.
Didn’t neymar join Barca when he was older? But playing f Ajax is not to be compared to Seria A! And Icardi has scored just as much as Aguero but A played in Spain where everyone scores +20 goals pr season thats much harder to do in Italy!
dude, neymar was born 92, same like Icardi. and he joined barcelona in 2013.
generally speaking eredivisie is lower than serie A. but serie A ain’t good as the old days too. and ibra did well in UCL at that 22 years of age, high competition in europe which Icardi never involve in so far.
Icardi scored 20+ goals, this season only. and aguero scored 100 goals for atletico from 2006-2011, which mean aguero already did that 20 goals virtually every season since he came to atletico.
aguero also got frequent national called up since his debut, while Icardi only got one called up in 2013 (at age 21) and played for barely 7 minutes.
and you also can’t say everyone can score 20+ in spain since average only 4-5 players in spain who scored 20+ every season, two of them messi and ronaldo, and the other three most of the time is top footballer also.
I’m not saying Icardi is bad, but your comparison was exaggerated since those three players did better than what Icardi did when they was 22 years old.
BUt icardi has scored his goals in a mess of a club, with a team in a constant “re-building-fase” – where as the other players played in teams with clear defined tactics and where everyone knew what to do!
