Mateo was a beast today, but he lost breath after 30th minute, which is normal at this part of pre-season. I hope Manco keeps his confidence in him. The combination of Kondogbia/Kovacic is great… just wonder about the third spot. Brozo hasn’t been convincing, Medel is great, but his attacking is his weakness, Maybe use Guarin against easier teams, and Medel against stronger sides (Juve and Roma) ?!
imo i don’t see kovacic as a holding midfielder. i think he’s better suited as a LCM/RCM, it’s too restrictive(dribbles) and as a regista the role is too deep for his passing range.
judging by recent reports(felipe melo) it seem mancini doesn’t see him as a regista either. kovacic-melo-kondogbia in midfield is very good.

I think he did his job really well today. Mancini has been talking he wants to make him a Pirlo kind of player because of his great passes. He has work to do, but he’s on the right path. Best player today imo.

it is but he can still come up on counter attacks and it is allowing him to be more relaxed in his desired position. pirlo also scored a few times and with kovas speed he should be able to notch in 5-10
Im agree with postal, kova more comfy as a regista and he show better performance in that role, because he need some space to build an attack and less preasure in this role, but he need backup at defence. It can be show when brozo were subtitute by gnoukouri, kova move more forward and there’s not much creation that he did because more preassure.
So to complete his role actually we need 2 box to box midfielder. Like pirlo were paired with vidal and marchisio/pogba.
So i think it will be good if our midfield is like
kondogbia – kovacic – hernanes/medel, and jojo become treq.
your talking about someone who played there for 20 years. imo kovacic’s passing range is limited. he is not good at long passes as pirlo. and he can’t exercise his great dribbling .. don’t you think mancini wanting melo will make kovacic change his role?

doesn’t mean he’s good at it. matic was an attacking midifelder all his life until his coach thought he would do better as a defensive midfielder. he turned out to be one of the best in the world.

kondogbia was good. but incredibly one footed. there were situations where he could’ve did simple pass with his right foot but chose to use his left and losses the ball. mancini needs to work on that.
