So it’s impossible that Ranocchia came in 4 years ago as the next great Italian defender and turned out to be shit as the years passed ?? It has to be hatred ?? I mean Mancio went as far as giving him the armband so he definitely trusted him at some point, but I guess he was disappointed too when you look at how far down the pecking order he is now..

First, he also lost a lot of aerial, it just happens that none were crucial. And if you think that he played good yesterday, idk what you were watching. He was clueless in first half, so lost, almost lead us to conceding in the first 15 minutes. He got a bit better later. And also, argentina is playing with what, Messi, Aguero, Di Maria, maybe Higuain and such. Pretty much no exceptional jumpers. I agree he was the best choice to play instead of Miranda, but I wouldn’t say he did a great job, did what he needed but was also a libality at times.
Clueless in a first minutes of your new position or and partner is normal, both Medel and Murillo get their grip later on and do their job well, i rate Medel more than Melo yesterday.. About aerial duel perhaps it’s true that he’s not at Cordoba’s level just yet but there’s always room for improvement i do believe..

Its a valid point. His height is a liability when playing as a CB. Just because we didn’t concede a header with him as a CB doesn’t make it false. He is playing as a outer CB for Chile in 3 at the back system, so he doesn’t have the true clearance task when defending. In a 4 at the back though, the 2 centerbacks have different tasks, which includes more heading clearances. Like JJ who performed better as a CB in 3-5-2 rather than 4 at the back. It was noticable he wasn’t comfortable yesterday, especially in the first half, Adrino got the better of him quite a few times(Murillo too, but he got composed in half time and had a good second half). I could definitely see him lose a jump vs Toni or somebody like that, given the chance. Saying his height isn’t a liability in a defender is just ignorant. That is why he mainly played defensive midfield for clubs and most people would agree, that he could be a really really good CB, had he been higher, but this way, he is mostly utilized as that destroyer CDM in front of your backline that can also assist as a third centerback.

Eh, people misunderstood what I wanted to say or I just expressed myself badly. I didn’t mean that he is a bad defender and never said it before and I never doubted him, I welcomed Mancini’s idea, check match thread and such if you don’t believe it. I just meant that he could be even better if he could do the same while also being a bit more reliable in aerial duels. Also wanted to say just because he works very good as a CB in Copa America, that doesn’t mean it will work as well in Serie A, much more physical league with many taller strikers like Toni. And I wanted to point out that he didn’t exactly play good in the last match. That is all. People replying to me like they got an idea that I think he is a bad defender.
He is very reliable in the air though, so many clearances against Bilan because he positions himself great. We are all afraid of the specific play were there’s a high cross to a tall striker that he is marking. But that has not happened.
I seriously lost materazzi perception of football when he considers the frog to be the top 3 defenders in italy and now he didnt know medels capabilities until now, has he not realise he was part of the defence that won Copa America.
For the records, I have not lost respect to him in any way, its just how he views football nowadays and being outdated in somesense.
I know what you mean but perhaps regarding Rano, his judgement is impaired because he’s personnaly involved (they’re friends)? And with Medel, I know he was brilliant in the copa, but I think it was fair to question weather he would be as good in that position in serie a? Obviuosly he is, but just saying…
