Inter will go head to head with Fiorentina on Sunday 27 September at the San Siro (kick off 20:45 CET) in an early season top of the table clash.
Inter come into this game in great form and are currently enjoying their best start to a league campaign since the days of Helenio Herrera’s Grande Inter side in 1966/67 with five wins in a row.
This will be the first of three difficult looking fixtures on paper as Inter look to maintain their 100% winning record. The performances have been good in parts in the matches so far and the team have shown their character in hard fought wins but they will need to up their game if they are to keep their place at the top of Serie A against Fiorentina (home), Sampdoria (away) and champions Juventus (home).
Fiorentina are also in good form coming into this game with four wins against Milan (2-0), Genoa (1-0), Carpi (1-0) and Bologna (2-0) with their only loss coming against Torino (3-1) on matchday two.
This form sees Fiorentina sit in second place in the Serie A table, three points behind Inter. New coach and ex Inter midfielder Paulo Sousa has had a positive impact on the Viola despite a low profile transfer campaign. The team now play with a more direct style compared to the possession based style of former coach Vincenzo Montella and the team has improved defensively, which currently sees them with the second best defensive record in Serie A with 3 goals conceded behind Inter who have conceded just 1.
Here is the Inter team news and probable line up as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport:
Samir Handanovic starts in goal with Davide Santon at right back. The central defensive partnership is expected to stay the same with Joao Miranda alongside Gary Medel. At left back Alex Telles should start with Juan Jesus only fit enough for the bench. Jeison Murillo misses the game with injury along with Danilo D’Ambrosio who was involved in a car accident.
The midfield three is expected to be the same with the impressive Felipe Melo alongside Geoffrey Kondogbia and the inconsistent Fredy Guarin.
Inter could also switch formation for this game to a 4-3-1-2 so the idea is that Ivan Perisic could play as a trequartista behind a front pairing of Stevan Jovetic and captain Mauro Icardi.
Probable Inter line up (subject to change): (4-3-1-2) Handanovic, Santon, Miranda, Medel, Telles, Melo, Kondogbia, Guarin, Perisic, Jovetic, Icardi (C).
Bench: Carrizo, Berni, Juan Jesus, Montoya, Ranocchia, Nagatomo, Di Marco, Brozovic, Gnoukouri, Palacio, Biabiany, Ljajic, Manaj.
Some Stats:
Inter and Fiorentina have met each other 156 times in Serie A with Inter winning 65 to Fiorentina’s 41 wins with 50 matches drawn.
In the overall records Inter lead with 68 wins to Fiorentina’s 46 wins with 53 drawn out of the 167 matches.
Fiorentina did the double over Inter last season, winning 3-0 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi and 1-0 at the San Siro.
The last time Inter beat Fiorentina in Serie A was two seasons ago on 15 February 2014 when Inter won 2-1 in Florence thanks to goals from Rodrigo Palacio and Mauro Icardi.
Inter have 3 ex Fiorentina players in their squad in Felipe Melo, Stevan Jovetic and Adem Ljajic.
Player to Watch: Felipe Melo – If Inter are to remain unbeaten then the Brazilian will be crucial especially with the way he breaks up opposition attacks and sets Inter’s play. Melo has been Inter’s metronome in midfield this season.
My Prediction: Inter 1-0 Fiorentina
Scorer: Jovetic
Officials: Referee: Antonio Damato Assistants: Di Fiore, De Pinto
Fourth Official: Cariolato Additional Assistants: Banti, Nasca
Author’s Note: This will be Inter’s biggest test so far as other than the Milan Derby the fixtures have been kind. Now that Inter have learnt how to win ugly I fully expect us to keep up our record. It would be important to win this game as it would send a message to the rest of Serie A ahead of matches against Sampdoria and Juventus.
Forza Inter!

Anyone know application on ipad to watch the game?
Football Italia promotes game streaming.
I miss IMissMarcoBranca
We have to win tonight. Come inter, lest hit a big gap with our rivals. It is possible!
Dream big, achieve big.
Demolish them, for not giving us Salah, heck for giving a direct competitor him!…I think guarin is key this match..so much hinges on his performance..
Hahahaha Bilan lost too. Cmon lets fucking win, that would really be a cherry on top of Bilan and Jube defeats.
Just saw the result!! We really need to win today but it’s gonna be tough…..
till now we r favorite cuz other sucks. we must win samp and viola to be a real favorite. we need to be nasty and deadly forza narazzurri
lets win this
forza inter!
Damn a won tonight would mean a real big gap! The Second Place firenze would he 6 points behind! Dont Even to mention others like roma 7 pts and juve..dont Count them anymore..
I hope inter playing with heart and seriously.. cause fiorentina have a great attack… i don’t want draw or lose.. i want inter win again.. we need to win.. fio, napoli, roma, juve want inter lose..
And this time we are plaing against true quality on the wings and up front…miranda and medel best be on their guard to defend balls into kalinic or babacar, very physical players.
Would also be great if kondo can try to be difference maker in taking more shots, we know he has that quality in that left foot to try a few times if nothing presents itself
If we’re to win today we MUST get our attack clicking, we won’t get away with it like against Hellas. Baby Capitano must get fed the ball in good areas, has rarely happened at all last 2 games (apart from that ball from kdog vs chievo 🙂
Against Fiorentina I’d be pleased with 0-0, no loss and another clean sheeet.
FUN FACT: On 17th february 2013 Fiorentina beat us 4-1 (in Firenze). That day Ljajic and Jovetics both scored two goals, before Cassano got one for Inter. Today I woldn’t mind if Ljajic and Jojo went crazy again!
On paper we are a stronger team and I think it will be a 2-1 win, with Jojo proving himself again, while Kondo will hit one from the distance. Babacar for Fiorentina.
I think I remember that, those two were unstoppable miserable day
I expect Mancio to start JJ if he’s match fit. telles is a disaster waiting to happen defensively.
I’d be happy with a 0-0 draw tomorrow, in order to keep our 1st place in the table.
i would 10000 percent do that…fucking hate those foot locker working pieces of shit..if we slay the purple flowers tomorrow you may see the name soon :p
When*
We can’t get cocky with comments like “lets all take a moment and laugh at juventus”, and “JUBE LOST MUAHAHAHA! We need a troll named “I Miss Conte”…JUST LOOK AT FUCKING MANCHESTER CITY! ..AND PLEASE, WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT “we can afford to lose points tomorrow” SHIT TALK. That’s such a mediocre mentality. As Interistas, we still need our feet on the ground, and a strong mentality and support! So please, let’s all wait for our bragging rights at least until 3 quarters of the season in 🙂
Also, please notice that we’ve won every game with a lot of effort, and the minimum advantage.
Although I don’t give a fuck whether we “win ugly”, we can’t afford to play tomorrow like we’ve done in the past 2 games. Fiorentina is the most balanced team we’ll play yet, and will prove to be the season’s top challenge until now. If our defence does its job right, we control the midfield, and FINALLY the PERISIC-ICARDI-JOJO trident get their game together we’ll be a force to reckon with on Sunday!
Forza Inter 🙂
Buddy I was just having fun… you don’t have to say it’s a mediocre mentality. My comment is aimed at one person. If you can’t laugh at jube now, when can you? Have a little fun. It’s a small victory (emphasis on small) so enjoy it….
I can’t laugh at Juve until my team wins!
Juve have 6 points… just 6… have fun with it while you can. There is a troll here called “I miss marco branca” and I bet he’s reading our comments
Well… there you have it :(. One can only hope for a rebounce now :/
Dude that’s what I meant when I said “have fun while you can” the way you act, you’ll never celebrate except if we win the scudetto (which is the hardest thing)
Chill man..
It’s not being cocky it’s reveling in Juve’s misery. A noble and worthy cause if ever there was one.
I think that’s fine if we post that such comment here not on Goal or Footyroom, etc. Hate a troll called himself Inter fans mock another team in public sites.
This is just the fixture we need to put all the doubters and haters to rest,we might not win with 3-4 goals to the good but we win nevertheless hoping for another solid performance and that’s all we can ask from the boys tomorrow..100%. Forza inter…my prediction inter 3-1 fiorentina ..scorers Icardi(1) perisic (1) jovetic (1).
Jube merda
lets all take a moment and laugh at juventus ….HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHHAAHHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAAH
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
Playing 4-3-1-2 and deploying Perisic as a Trequatista is such a waste!
I want 4-3-3 with WINGsssSsSsSSsZzZzZSZSZSZSSSSSSZSZZZZSS!
Imagine, tommorow 13 points clear of juve….
What a feeling. But It will be a hard match . We can drop points tommorow.
But if we have the oppertunity than you have to go for it. I hope that the referee is not going to F us with a red card or penalty. Just because they are inter haters 😉
#SaveAllegri lolllllll
He did the same with bilan in the second season..
Nice job mr. Allegri!!! Bwahahahhahaha.
Hernanes also did a good job destroying juve. What a good business ausilio did

Jube lost again, 5 points in 6 games. Lets make it even better with a victory of our own tomorrow.
yeah.. where are you ImissyoumarcobrancaASS???!! Fuckin coward.
But i must admit, Napoli is really strong. Never stop running and fight for the ball. Their game is joyful to watch. Napoli’s attacking play is awesome. Damn, Allan is beast, even his body is not tall. He can fight pogba.
Hopefully, 3 poin for Inter tomorrow:)
Yeah Branca guy is fucking hiding in his cave hahahaha. Pathetic prick doesn’t dare to show up now hahahahaha.
If there is any picture of that troll cryng, i’ll buy
Can you imagine if we had Allan instead of guarin….
We need a more offencive midfielder . Someone like fekir or r.i.p kovacic 🙂
Kovačić wouldn’t have done shit in these years games. This is exactly the type of games in which he went missing. Our midfield is playing better without him.
You got a point there . Our midfield is awesome now . The kondo – kova deal was a win . The only weakpoint in our XI is fredy . If he could just get his shit toghether …
I would also like Brozo to replace Guaro. It is a long season, I am optomistic that Brozo will return.
Had he a decent shot then he would be a starter. Furthermore, the trequarista experiment didn’t work out for him.
Nonetheless, he is versatile and real asset.
I think Brozo isn’t much of an improvement over Guarin, and Brozovič doesn’t have those “Guaro” moments after playing shit which win you the game in the end.
Nope. Guarin always be Guarin. 1 games awesome next 5 games mehh. If Inter finish CL qualification, definitely i want Inter sell this guy. Candidate Victor Wanyama or Roberto Soriano
With a bit of luck in the next 25min, Juventus will also lose yet again, which would make our (possible) win tomorrow that more enjoyable.
This is a great preview, Ian! Thanks!
Just want to point something out – I found this on Italian Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1966%E2%80%9367_Serie_A – and it says that in 1966/1967 Inter won the first 4 games, not the first 5. Not sure if it’s true.
Thanks for your reply Kristijan. I will check that up again. Glad you enjoyed the preview 🙂
Just checked Inter’s archive on their website which has confirmed Inter won 7 matches in a row at the start of 1966/67 season against Foggia, Vicenza, Atalanta, Spal, Lecco, Brescia and Torino 🙂
