Barcelona’s former president Joan Laporta has revealed that Inter tried to sign Messi. Laporta was Barcelona’s president from 2003-2010 and talked to RMC Sport:
“I receieved a lot of offers from many clubs for Messi. Moratti’s Inter were ready to pay his buy out clause but I’ve always kept Leo close. I wouldn’t have let him leave for any reason. If Leo will ever leave Barca? He is a great symbol of Barcelona and I don’t think he can ever leave the club.”

I can believe Moratti was interested but don’t know the validity of the rest. Even in 2006 Zanetti, Samuel etc were aware of Messi’s reputation from international play probably. Such a move may well have nearly bankrupted us BUT Inter’s place would be sealed in history as a magnet for Argentina’s greatest. Such a move could, quite simply, have reversed Serie A’s demise over recent seasons.
Laporta lies… Messi didn’t want to come to inter cuz he wanted to stay in Barcelona that’s why Barcelona didn’t sell him. Then everybody knows what happened. Back in the time, everything was around Ronaldinho. That’s the one laporta didn’t want to sell
Bankruptcy in 3…2..1..
we must be realistic, a player like him cost too much money that we don’t actually have or had even 5 or 6 years ago.
Although I’d like to see Messi in another team, cause I don’t believe he is the best player in the world-
he is
The money inter would get from marketing him would cover expenses; tv rights, attendance, jerseys, public appearnces, sponsorships ……. The list goes on! Icons like messi are worth every penny, on and off the pitch.
Just imagine… We had Messi in our team coached by Benitez, Gasperini, Ranieri, Strama and the guy that I’m not gonna mention his name.
