Mourinho landed at Linate airport and gave an interview to the journalists that were present:

“I haven’t returned here since I left, only for Milan – Real Madrid in the Champions League. It never happened with Inter as a home team, to have a lunch with my president, his wife and the children is a fantastic emotion. Moratti? I’ve never hidden the fact that the best year of my career was the year at Inter. Then life goes on, but I’ve always remained close to Moratti and he’s always remained close to me. We’ve always promised to stay close to each other and now that I’m not working. I have the possibility to do the things that I’ve never been able to do before. Returning today is an amazing feeling and I hope to return to London happy, not only for having spent time with my friends but also for having seen Inter won.”

About a return to Inter:

“This is my former club, but not my former team since none of the player I had are left. But Inter is always Inter and the Interisti are always Interisti. I’ve always said that one arrives at Inter as professional, and leaves as Interista. This is the power of Moratti. I’m an Interista, but I want to repeat that I don’t want any speculations. I won’t be the coach of Inter next season and they haven’t asked me for it. Maybe I will be Inter’s coach in the future, why not. I’ve already returned to Chelsea where I’ve coached, but I won’t come back here now. They have a project with Mancini that I hope goes well. I don’t want to close any doors for the future, in football you should never do that, especially if you have had great joy and a great relation with a club, but now it’s not the time.”

Mourinho continued talking about the possibility to see the last derby:

“I had thought about returning for the derby, but Milan was the home team. I’ve always respected the Rossoneri, Galliani and all the others. That’s why I didn’t come back for that game. I want to repeat that I respect the club, and that there’s always been a good relation between us. I’d hope to see them in the Champions League again.”

The arrival at Inter:

“I prepared well to coach Inter. I had a lot of time after the farewell at Chelsea, I studied the language and communicated well straight away. It was a magical moment. I haven’t returned earlier because I haven’t had time between my jobs at Madrid and Chelsea, but also because I wanted to return with more controlled emotions.”

Mourinho then talked about how he left the club:

“Someone might not have understood why I didn’t return after the final in Madrid. Those who know me, just as the players, know that I might not have left the stadium after that night, it would’ve been to hard for me to control the emotions. And they understood this. Maybe today I will have some tears, but it will be different. If I expect a chant for me? No I expect chants for Inter. It will be a tough game against Sampdoria, I hope to leave the stadium happy. The scudetto? Juve or Napoli, but they are both playing the cups still and this could make a difference. Two great teams who have taken different ways to the top. Even Fiorentina is a great team under Sousa. Inter and Milan will be back and Roma with Spalletti are returning. It’s been many years since there was a Championship like this in Italy.”

Of course, the questions about United were there as well:

“I speak with you journalists because it was a while since I did that and it felt right to stop here. I want to stay calm and not comment this. I don’t look for a club, but I’m waiting for contacts. It’s logical. Now I have the possibility do things that I haven’t done before.”

Towards the end of the interview Mourinho commented Mancini briefly:

“It’s clear that he has feeling with Thohir. Inter won’t win the championship this season, but if we can get back to the Champions League or Europa League, it will be a good season compared to the last ones.”

Concluding, Mourinho talked about how the treble was born:

“I think the treble was born when we lost at Old Trafford in the Champions League. Me and Moratti understood that we had to change a lot of things. The architect was Moratti. Him and the fans were decisive. At Inter I came as a professional, but then I became much more. When you play, when you work, there is a super feeling between the club and the fans. This feeling was what made us do miracles as resisting against Barcelona with ten men at the Camp Nou, and to then go on to eat Bayern in the final.”
