Roberto Mancini was interviewed by Sky Sports after the convincing 3-1 win at home against Sampdoria. “Seeing as this is a delicate moment, I’m satisfied. It was important to win to not break away from the teams fighting for third place. The worst hasn’t passed yet as one victory isn’t enough. We need a bit of time, more peace of mind. At the start there was the normal tension. The three points were good and firm, even if in the first half we left the ball game to Sampdoria. The fortune brought by Mourinho? Maybe it was the six day retreat or Ronaldo: let’s see what it was that has brought good (laughs).”

The understanding between Icardi and Eder?

“In the first half they were too far apart, especially when they have Perisic and Biabiany too. A few good combinations, but we need to be closer together.”

What do you think about Melo and Brozovic performance?

“Melo had a good game: diligent, skilled and attentive. Brozovic is definitely getting better. At some points in the game he loses his position, he must work to do better.”

Can you see the work put down on the first goal?

“Sure, we have worked so hard. Even though some chances were granted to us. Maybe we were more compact and it went well”.

Confident for third place?

“The thing that gives us hope are tonight’s three points, but we need to do something more regarding how we play. I think the improvements will come with a set of victories. Now we are well and we need to be humble, perhaps we need to suffer before we can score a goal. That’s football.”
