If Inter have had some back luck earlier this season, then Lady Luck paid the Nerazzurri back big time today when Mancini’s men beat Frosinone away by 1-0 after Mauro Icardi scored his 50th goal in his 100th fixture in all competitions for Inter in a match where the home side hit the woodwork three times without managing to score.

This was a lacklustre performance by Inter from start to finish, no matter what anyone says. Inter looked like they were playing football in slow motion and they failed to hit the target until the 62nd minute! Sure Frosinone defended really well and if there was any justice in football then they would have scored three times before Perisic’s cross found Icardi who headed home the only goal of the match. We all know that football is football and sometimes the beautiful game, just as life itself, can be very unfair.

Stevan Jovetic looked just as rusty as you could have expected him to be given his long absence and Alex Telles crosses were poor, to say the very least. Up front Perisic ran into space but his finishing let him done on more than one occasion, whilst Icardi did what he always does: runs around looking to sniff a chance to bury it. Sure, at times it can be very frustrating to watch but you can’t take away that Icardi is a goalpoaching phenomenon. How else can you describe his accomlishment today? His 50th goal in his 100th match for Inter in all competitions, for a player who turned 23 this past February. Opinions are opinions and facts are facts and Icardi’s stats are beyond fantastic. Just what is he capable of if he would play in a team surrounded by say a Mesut Özil? Remarkable.

No, today will only be remembered for the fact that Inter now have 58 points and are only 1 win away from beating their highest point score in a season since Mazzarri’s first season where the team had 60 points after the season was finished. Given that there are 6 matches left to play, Inter could end up with more than 70 points for the first time since the 2010/2011 season when Inter finished 2nd behind Scudetto winning Milan on 76 points. Most seasons 70 points is good enough to finish third, this year it wont even come close. However, as much as Mancini has been criticized by parts of the Inter faithfull, opinions are opinions and facts are facts, and the latter points to Inter finishing with their highest point score in 5 years no matter how anyone feels about Mancini’s performance this season.
