Back in fashion for Inter is the name of Dries Mertens. Speaking to Nieuwsblad, the Belgian winger has opened the doors to a farewell from Napoli: “If I do not renew I’m leaving. In Napoli I feel great and I think the club is overdue a renewal proposal. It’s too early to talk about the future. There are no problems, but it’s obvious that it all depends on Napoli.” As reported by the online edition of Corriere dello Sport, the nerazzurri have had their eyes on the former Utrecht player and they have two counterparts to propose to Napoli: Ranocchia and Juan Jesus. De Laurentiis wants to monetize the hypothetical sale and would prefer to sell the player abroad in order to not heavily reinforce a direct competitor. The nerazzurri, among other things, are also courting another Napolitan forward who, at the ‘fault’ of the star Higuain, has had little chance to show off, Manolo Gabbiadini.

Merten’s contract expires on the 30th June, 2018 and, as said by the Belgian, there’s no rush to renew, even though the desire on his part is there. Napoli believe in the forward and will meet his agent at the end of the season, or more likely after the European Championship in France to talk about the extension.
