According to SportItalia, Inter have set their sights on central defender Rodrigo Caio. After previous attempts by Valencia and Atlético Madrid to sign him, Inter could be his route into European football. It seems that intermediaries have gathered information on the Brazilian in order to convince São Paulo to sell for 16m.

Last summer, Valencia tried to buy Caio for 16m plus bonuses, however the 22-year-old failed his medical due to negative reports on his knee which had previously sustained a long-term injury.

In the past year, Caio has been in impressive form for São Paulo, culminating in him being called up to Brazil’s Copa América squad. Medical examinations would no longer be a cause for concern. Significantly, as well as being a central defender, he can also play as a defensive midfielder. Caio already has an Italian passport so Inter would not be required to use a non-EU spot.
