Sky Sports have reported that Inter have asked Tottenham for their center-back Jan Vertonghen. The Belgian has already played under Frank De Boer at Ajax. Inter could put Marcelo Brozović in the deal, but Spurs are not convinced. The deal would be a cash plus player transaction in favour of the Nerazzurri, however the situation is still at very early stages.

Seriously, you guys really want this guy so bad? His knees were broken and ankle joint ligament was torn. Last season he was sidelined almost 4 months and missed Euro as well. That’s okay if we want another Santon 2.0 or Vidic 2.0.

Yes this move makes total sense. Break up the best centre-back pairing in the league and lose another central defender (where Spurs are already short) to bring in another midfielder in a position where there is already plenty competition

Verts has reached his sell by date and we can get a better centre back as back up to Toby & Wimmer with Dier as an alternative plus the youngsters coming through the ranks

If he’s not good enough for inter then he’s not good enough for us. Verts is a super CB with a brilliant under standing with loris and rose. Why break up the defence and then to pay inter money as well is a joke. So who is your ‘we can get a better CB as back up to wimmer and Toby’ then? And why would a better CB than verts come to thfc when arse, Liverpool, barca are all wanting a CB and they will pay for in wages.
Wimmer is already a better CB than Vertonghen and so is Dier. My problem with Jan is that he doesn’t give good support to his CB partner. Whoever plays alongside him basically has to deal with whatever striker threat the opposition has on his own.
Our best record last season was when Wimmer partnered Aldewereld – that’s when we had the best defense.

Yes wimmer is class and seems a top bloke but dier is not better than verts, I wouldn’t be confident in dier being cover at all. Don’t get me wrong he’s put in a good shift in dm but even then it can’t a be coincidence that we don’t win without dembelle. I would rather one of the young lads from pre season to chip in as cover. Either way for us to change any defenders now would be stupid. We are finally looking solid at the back. If it isn’t broke!!!!!!
You also need to take into account the togetherness of the squad it’s not about a individual player anymore. They has to be united and are defenders are and a replacement may not be.
Anyone not named Ranocchia should be good enough.
