One of Inter legends, Diego Milito, talked about his illustrious career and experience as a football player before a crowd of Argentinean students. Below is the summary of his talk.
On his current activities…
“I don’t have much free time. I have three children, so there are always things to do. And I also still talk about football regularly because it is inevitable. After all, I had been a football player all my life. I have always said that I will quit football before my body gives up on me. Overall, I am very pleased with what I had accomplished as a football player.”
On his brother, Gabriel Milito…
“We grew up playing football together as kids. But then I chose to play for Racing Club, whereas he chose to play for Independiente. We had taken different, opposite career paths; we had been rivals. Each of us chose his own path, his own club.”
On Racing Club and Inter…
“It would not be fair to compare the trophy that I won with Racing Club with the ones that I won with Inter. Winning the Argentine Primera División with Racing Club was special. Winning the Champions League with Inter was amazing because it was one of my dreams to play in the Champions League to begin with.”
On his future…
“Throughout my career, I have always learned something from my coaches. I hope one day I could apply that knowledge as a football coach. So I think my future will always be linked to football club(s). But for now I need to rest.”
On Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi….
“I have been fortunate enough to live in the world about the same time with Maradona and Messi—the two best players in football history. And Messi was my teammate at the Argentina national team.”
On his childhood dream…
“As a kid, I wanted to be part of the national team at World Cup. So to be able to participate in the 2010 World Cup was a privilege.”
On returning to Racing Club in 2014…
“One of my dreams had always been to go back to Racing Club—to end my career with the shirt I love. I returned to Racing Club with the hope that everything would go well. And I could not waste any more time because of my age.”
On a road named after him…
“Racing Club fans have given me so much more than I ever could have given them on the pitch.”
On the most memorable goal(s) of his career…
“Two goals I scored on the 2010 Champions League Final are the ones that I remember the most. However, I have a good enough memory to remember all my goals, from the first one to the last one against Temperley.”

Could you imagine a coaching staff including Milito, Cambiasso, Zanetti, and Samuel? Unfortunately, Zanetti has already said he has no interest in coaching, but perhaps he could serve as the fitness trainer considering he had a better physique at 40 than most players do in their prime. To have four players with that level of talent, professionalism, dedication and character on one team, at the same time, in four completely different positions, it is practically unheard of, but looking back at Inter’s history it’s no real surprise because we have done it on several occasions. Most notably the Italian contingent of Grande Inter led by Facchetti and Mazzola, but also including the likes of Corso, Burgnich, and Picchi. Then of course there was the German contingent from ’88-’92 including Matthaus, Brehme and Klinsmann. Come to think of it, it seems to happen every 20 years, so big things are expected around 2030!
I really like the way you think !!,,,and your Idea made me happy for a moment,,,really hope that our words reach them,,,and make them thinking about coaching !
Everytime I see this legend I hate Argentina more and more.
