With Stefano Pioli’s arrival now confirmed, attention has now switched towards how Inter will look to strengthen their new coach’s squad in January.

Calciomercato have reported that the defensive department is the priority, with new full backs seen as an absolute necessity.

Matteo Darmian is a top target and has agreed personal terms with the Nerazzurri. However, due to Antonio Valencia’s injury, the ex-Torino man is playing more and Manchester Utd seem less inclined to offload him.

Should a deal for Darmian fail to materialise, alternatives are being readied in the shape of Benfica’s Nélson Semedo and Barcelona’s Aleix Vidal.

In terms of central defenders, Pioli would ideally like to sign Francesco Acerbi although it is unlikely Sassuolo will sell him mid-season. Atalanta’s Mattia Caldara is one possible alternative.

Victor Lindelöf also remains a target, and is the favoured option of Kia Joorabchian, however he is very expensive and it remains to be seen whether Suning will approve the expenditure.
