It seems Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is always linked with Inter. Former Inter coach Gigi Simoni spoke on this subject, but also on the current form of the Nerazzurri:
How did you see Inter yesterday, Pioli has already had a good impact?
I saw the game, they were pretty good. They were struggling as they had a new coach, against a team in form like Milan and therefore it could have been a problem, but they actually played better than the last match and put more heart. He had someone underperforming like Icardi, but they played well. Pioli is one of us, understands us, is Italian, while de Boer spoke of the beautiful game and time, but the time was never there. ”
The 8 points separating Inter from third place are so many or they can do it?
“I think they are many. Compared to Juve they are infinity, while compared to the other there is no one that has continuity. ”
You have coached Simeone, speculations say that he is close to the Inter bench?
“I think that everything is determined by Pioli. He has a difficult task, but if he does well, he can continue. Simeone has a desire to be the coach of Inter, I know him personally. Contacts? I can not say what I do not know. ”
Tips for the market?
“It’s a team with many valuable players, started poorly because of the coaches situations. There was confusion and even good players as the defenders from last year seem uneasy and fearful. De Boer had his faults, but we need to see if the players are prepared to face a difficult place like Inter. ”
After the experience at Inter you have never been approached by Inter, Milan or Juve?
“No, because then I made a few mistakes in choices. I could gone to Naples. Boniperti wanted me at Juve when I was at Genoa, Milan also approached me, but I had other arrangements. ”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the club seems to have a plan for how they want us to play; Thohir said when he bought the club that his favourite system is the 4-2-3-1, and after a while Mazarri (who was fired by Moratti not Thohir), started talking about working on that system as well. He said he wanted to play that way in the future but not now – he actually kept saying so for months and then he got sacked and Mancini, who plays 4-3-3 got in.
He started out last year with the 4-3-3 but around christmas changed to 4-2-3-1, wonder why? Then he walked away and a well known 4-2-3-1 coach came in. When he was replaced the club interviewed 4-5 coaches – were they telling them to play 4-2-3-1???
Now Pioli is playing more or less the same way and system as the former coaches (which is good), adding in aggression and determination!
BUT how does Simeone fit into this ball possesion way of playing?
He´s well known for being a master of defensive football, counter attacking and some calls him; more Italian than the Italians are today!
If the club wants to build a ball possesion way of playing, an entertaining style of football which can sell itself all over the world, then I don’t see Simeone as the right “next coach” for us…
Mazzarri was hired by Moratti and fired by Thohir.
Yes I know… but still he talked about wanting to play 4-3-3 .. just wondering whether it was pressure from Thohir which made him wanna play that way and not his 3-5-2 system.
he plays defensive against bigger club like real and barcelona, but against small teams he is quite aggressive, and the reason for hiring him would be his man mangement, tactical awareness and has developed koke and saul to become one of the best mids in the world, and not to forget bring the best out of griezman and even revive torres
Yes he is great at working with youngsters – no doubt there… but does his tactics fit into the 4-2-3-1 model we seem to be building? I think he plays a kind of 4-4-2 with two strikers right?
Our test is not in derby. We won againt Juve. Our real test is on consistency, against smaller clubs. If we can get 3 points in all games, against smaller team, and not lose to big team, we can finish with a high head.
