I agree the money would be better spent elsewhere. However there are really two true superstars of the modern game: Messi and Ronaldo. I wouldn’t be surprised if signing Messi would pay for itself in increased exposure, merchandising, fan interest and global reach etc. So honestly I am on the fence about whether this would even be a good idea… but regardless can’t see that it is in any way likely to happen.
