Stefano Pioli was interviewed by Sky Sports after the important 1-0 win away against Palermo.

The Inter coach believed that “we are pressing a lot but we needed more intensity in the first half even though we created a lot of chances. Our self-esteem is growing, we have the play to resolve the issues we face. Juventus, Lazio and Milan suffered here too. Today my tactical choices were conditioned by tired legs after the Coppa Italia.”

Pioli was asked if he agreed that Joao Mario was better than Banega today to which Pioli responded: “I think that Banega did very well at playing the ball vertically but today the movement from his teammates wasnt there. Or maybe he just didn’t have a great day but we played very well with both Banega and Joao Mario on the pitch. From match to match I decide who is more useful, Banega plays more centrally, we want to be competitive so we need more than only 11 starting players. I have 5 players to choose from in the middle and so we have many different options there. Brozovic can also play on the wing as well as just behind the striker. They all have to continue demonstrating this availability, and then whoever comes on does well. The main thing is that I have great players, quality players, who help you to win matches. I just have to make sure to make as few mistakes as possible. The squad is demonstrating commitment and high quality.”

“Our midfielders started the match a little bit too low to win loose balls given Palermo’s aggressive start. We started the match with the players that could hurt them. Brozovic is a fantastic player and he’s rested whilst Gagliardini and Kondogbia have been playing a lot recently so I didn’t want to play them together” Pioli concluded.
