With Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perisic suspended for the next two games against Empoli and Bologna, Gazzetta dello Sport have looked at possible solutions to Stefano Pioli’s problem of replacing the two players who’ve contributed to the most goals this season. Pioli will decide between Palacio or Eder up top. If Palacio gets the nod Eder will play on the right in a 4-2-3-1. If Eder is upfront, Gabigol will be given a chance to shine out on the right hand side, again in a 4-2-3-1.

Don’t hold your hopes up. It will be GranpaLacio and Eder… Gabigol might get 10 mins… Nice thing is Pioli cannot avoid playing Pinamonti. Granpa is not a 90 mins player… so Pinamonti will be introduced at some point.
These situations are the exact reason why we need a vice-Icardi. Having a target man up top is essential for Inter’s current formations and tactics. We cross the ball a lot, maybe even too much, and having the choices of Eder and Gabi, both of whom are really second strikers, or a young and inexperienced Pinamonti makes things troublesome.
Pinamonti and/or Roger Martinez will be the vice-Icardi. Feel like they will be more than capable to do exactly that and will be good at it… We do not need a 4mill+ salary vice-Icardi which seems to fit what you’re looking for, someone with exp who is an actual striker.
It’s nearly impossible to say if either of Pinamonti or Martinez are ready to fill that role, but I could see Martinez taking to it more naturally considering his experience over Pinamonti. Agreed, we don’t need a 4m salary bench warmer, but someone like a Borriello or Théréau, older experienced strikers who have good goal tallies in Serie A or younger options in Petagna or Schick, who seem to specialize coming on as a super sub, could be good options for the vice-Icardi role.
Unfortunately it will be Grandpa-lacio and Eder.
