As highlighted by the editors of Sky Sport, Inter have some problems in scoring goals from their midfielders. “Only against Genoa and Palermo there were decisive goals which came from midfielders, in total the Inter midfielder have scored eight times this season. This is the lowest share among the top six in the standings in Serie A. Gagliardini has very Cambiasso like movements off the ball, but he has not yet managed to score. Kondogbia has also not scored yet”.

This problem has existed for years! First with Guarin, now with Brozovic, neither were/are consistent enough at putting the ball in the back of the net. Honestly, it makes me think if maybe Mancio wasn’t as crazy as we thought to want to bring Yaya Toure to Inter. He’s the type of midfielder capable of tallying double digit goals in a season, something we’ve desperately needed since the days of Sneijder and Stankovic. Today, there are only so many players who fit this mold, and a LARGE majority are already at top clubs, and wouldn’t want to leave for Inter unless we have CL football. Look at the clubs above us: Juventus have Pjanic and Khedira (9 goals), Roma have Nainggolan (9 goals), and Napoli have Hamsik (10 goals). Meanwhile, we have scored 8 goals TOTAL from our midfield, Perisic and Candreva excluded because they play further forward, with Joao Mario and Brozovic scoring 3 each, and Banega scoring 2. We NEED a player capable of scoring double digit goals out of the midfield if we want to bridge the gap between us and the top 3. The glaringly obvious weak points of the team, fullback, will be addressed, but I’m worried this is something that will go overlooked considering we do already have a talented midfield, but we’re still missing that piece. I think we need to take a chance on a younger player to fill this role, and hope for the best, similar to Gagliardini. So far, we’ve been linked with some great options to fill this role: Tolisso, Milinkovic-Savic, Kessie, Pellegrini, Baselli, and Benassi. All of which have so far scored 4 or more goals, are 24 years or younger, and 5/6 are already plying their trade in Serie A. We NEED to sign one of these players during the summer, and hope they can add to our minimal goal tally out of the midfield, and help us gain ground on that top three!
Yep, I was just thinking about this the other day.. Brozovic is the only one with solid goalscoring abilities, but he is playing hot and cold, Mario and Gaglia are good at getting into chances, but their finishing is so poor.. Kondogbia is dreadful going foward and Banega hasn’t found his feet at Inter yet.
Midfield of Kondogbia, Gaglia and Mario looks the most balanced one, but they pose almost no threat to opposition goal so one of Brozovic or Banega should be starting but I can’t decide instead of who.
So far we are looking dangerous only via flanks and Icardi, that’s why we struggle so much to break the deadlock. Pioli needs to find some way to get some goals from the midfield or we don’t stand a chance in CL race.
we wouldnt be in this problem if our defenders can actually defend, especially if any of our Fullbacks can do their job, which is fckin cross and covering our flanks
Its a big problem really.
There needs to be a real goalscoring threat from the midfield. 8 goals between 5 players is a disgrace.
Makes me think Kondogbia and Gaglia isnt ideal, since none of them can score even in an open goal.
Brozovic and Banega can shoot, but the quality shots are too far between. Meanwhile Joao Marios shooting is so weak even Kovacic is laughing.
Inter needs a starting midfielder thats capable of scoring 10~ goals per season in the league.
Joao Mario can shoot. Just wait.
Gagliardini will score..He’s just unlucky.
If Pioli use 4-3-3 next session. Trio MC would be GJK.
