Ahead of Argentina-Chile, former Inter great Ivan Zamorano spoke to Super Deportivo Radio on Lionel Messi and what things would be like if he was Chilean opposed to Argentine: “If Messi was Chilean, there would be monuments throughout the country and he would even be tired from all the freebies he’d receive. In Chile he is highly regarded. I think we should consider him the best in the world, he plays between 70 and 80 games a year and, despite this, still plays in the national team.”

Come on..!! Chile won copa america without Messi
Messi won…………… nothing for his country.
Why build monuments for someone who had not won anything for his country
And Argentina still ranked #1 by FIFA for winning nothing. LOL
They played 3 finals in a row which means that they have won more games than any other team. The final is just one more game, the most important one. FIFA seams to value consistency over achievement and it makes perfect sense.
that’s a valid point but if you lose 3 finals in a row, how can you be considered the best team. it’s just my opinion, i have nothing against them but fifa’s ranking system is broken.
Because winning isn’t everything. And because, in today’s sterile football world, when money are everybody’s God and people like Zanetti, Maldini, Totti are almost nonexistent! It’s pleasure to watch him, after so many trophies and awards, playing football with the passion of a little kid!
This is not Tennis. Football is a team sport, one player cannot win a competition by himself, no matter how good he is. He did get them to 3 finals in a row, though and that’s a pretty amazing feat.
3 finals in a row?
in that case what about two copa america in a row?
maybe they need to build Alexis Sanchez and Gary medel monuments.
Messi has done a good job for his club, it is normal if Barca build a monument for him but for his country he has done nothing. And for 3 finals in a row, history only remembers winners.
Winning 2 copas in a row was great but we’ll all agree that getting to the final of the world cup is much tougher. If it wasn’t for Higuain, they could have even won that final. Messi has done a lot for Argentina, just as much as for Barca if not more. To win it all you need a great team, not just a few great players.
Oh and the Pitbull should definitely get a monument and it better be a big one.
