Many at Inter still regret Mateo Kovačić’s departure to this day, while others believe he will turn out to be an enormously talented player but will never quite manage to fulfil his potential. No one at Real Madrid doubts his quality, but holding down a regular starting spot in Zinedine Zidane’s team is not easy. This is why he consistently finds himself linked with a return to Inter or a move to another Serie A club. To understand the Croatian’s current situation, FcInterNews.it contacted his agent Nikki Vusan.

Firstly, how is Kovačić?

“He’s ok, he’s great. Los Blancos are one of the most important clubs in the world. Madrid is a beautiful city and he is very happy in Spain.”

But he is not playing with consistency…

“I do not think Mateo is playing enough. Los Merengues are the European champions, and this means that the squad is made up of great players. Modrić is probably the best midfielder in the world, Kroos won the World Cup with Germany, and we must not forget other top players like James and Isco. There are so many stars at Real. Also, I must say that I know for sure that the club is very happy with Kovačić.”

It is rumoured that Inter remain in his heart, so much so that he declared himself an Interista…

“This is true. He left many friends and spent some beautiful moments in Milan. But it was time to leave. In any case, he always follows the Nerazzurri, where his good friend Brozović plays. And that will never change. He will continue to follow Inter and La Beneamata will always remain in his heart.”

Then can we say a return to Inter or another Serie A club in the future is not impossible?

“I do not want to answer, in order to avoid speculation. I honestly don’t know where I will be in five years, let alone talk about the future of another person such as Mateo.”

Can you explain why he left?

“I don’t think any player in the world would reject Real Madrid. Except maybe Francesco Totti.”
