When asked about Luciano Spalletti’s potential arrival at Inter, Sky journalist Maurizio Compagnoni said: “He is a great coach, and he is on Inter’s radar, but I think Mr Zhang has other priorities. Spalletti certainly has what it takes to be an Inter coach though.”

He went on to explain why he thinks the Nerazzurri lost their form so suddenly: “The team lacked motivation once the Champions League dream faded.”

Campagnoni then spoke about the club’s objectives during this summer’s transfer window. He believes three defenders will arrive, and another three will leave.

22-year-old Feyenoord right-back Rick Karsdorp is on the Beneamata’s radar, but Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Manchester City, Roma, Napoli and Milan are also interested in him.

Piero Ausilio is also a big fan of FC Porto centre-back Felipe, who is being touted as a potential replacement for Pepe at Real Madrid. Stefan de Vrij is under consideration, but Campagnoni feels he is best suited to playing in a back three.

In midfield, a holding player will arrive, but not a regista. Grzegorz Krychowiak has underperformed at PSG, so they cannot realistically demand any more than €30 million, which Suning can certainly afford.

In attack, Federico Bernardeschi is in pole position. Inter rate him highly, and do not currently have a player like him in their squad. He has great close control, and has the ability to unlock tight games. Ivan Perišić is more powerful than he is, and plays much more narrow. Antonio Candreva has different characteristics.

In a 4-2-3-1, Bernardeschi would work better than Domenico Berardi. He has made it clear he will not renew his contract with Fiorentina, but there are other clubs monitoring his situation. As for Patrik Schick, he is wasted on the right flank, but signing an alternative to Mauro Icardi is a must.
