Sky Sport report the background story which led to the dismissal of Stefano Pioli during a conference call between Inter’s Director’s in Milano and the club’s owners in Nanjing.

According to the report the decision took all the club’s directors by surprise, as did the surprising appointment of Walter Sabatini as Suning Sports Technical Director which in practice means that the former Roma and Palermo Sporting Director will supervise everything that occurs at both of Suning’s clubs.

Furthermore, Sky reports, Sabatini will have a strategic role in all of the decisions made at both clubs, starting with who will be appointed to replace Stefano Pioli as Inter’s next coach. Sky underlines, however, that Sabatini’s involvement does not call current Sporting Director Piero Ausilio’s freedom to discharge his duties as he wishes into question. Ausilio, who recently signed a 3-year extension with the Nerazzurri will therefore have the same position he had prior to Sabatini’s appointment.

Meanwhile, the sudden change of coach has also caught the players by surprise, according to Sky who report further that for the second day in a row Zanetti, Gardini and Ausilio were all present at Appiano Gentile earlier today to reiterate once again to the players the importance of ending the ongoing season with dignity.
