Having spoken on Inter and the footballing side of things, Steven Zhang also spoke to CNBC on the business and politics side of things: “The young Chinese generation has grown up trying different things. We want different experiences, things that we can connect with the mind and heart; we want to be unique. No one can say in five years what people will buy but the most important thing is to provide new experiences to make life easier for people. We need to understand the consumer, study them every second, and be prepared to offer goods and services that they really want. The most important thing is to do what the consumer wants.”

Zhang then discussed how Suning’s purchase of Inter has opened a whole new world to them: “All companies and all countries meet the same difficulties when it comes to globalisation: there are different cultures, communications even different policies and different perspectives. But I think these things can change if you do business together. The most important thing is to try to communicate and understand different cultures. In the case of the purchase of Inter, it is not only to invest in football, but see how a Chinese company or a given country is moving in another. Italy is for us the other side of the world, so how can we, the people of one country and those of  another country understand each other? Inter, is one of the best clubs in the world, it has given us this experience and opened the doors to China to communicate with the world. It is an opportunity to change the world and make it a better place. Listening and learning is the most important thing. But learning not only from books but from experiences and reality.”

Zhang concluded speaking of his experience at Inter: “When you walk into the stadium, you really feel the passion, the culture, the hearts of all the fans. We want Inter to become a door to open to new cultures, new businesses, new experiences.”
