Out of de Vrij, Manolas, and Rudiger I would still prefer Manolas bit looks like that transfer talk has cooled off recently. Pepe has the potential to do well but for some reason I can’t help but picture him being another Vidic. One of my main issues I had with our defence in the latter half of the season was that no one was brave enough to take a yellow card to bring down an attacker… Pepe would take a red for us certainly
De Vrij next to Pepe would be just perfect
Think Pepe needs a technical strong player – so called “playing defender” next to him. Someone like Manolas. De Vrij and Pepe are very similar and both are “hard kicking defenders”.
It’s the opposite, De Vrij is more tehnical than Manolas, his passing is way better than Manolas’s.
His long passing maybe be, but his short passing surely isn’t. De Vrij is a great man maker and a beast in the air, but he isn’t a technical monster at all. But Manolas is very strong technically…
So it seems we ain´t signing dutch after all this summer as Strootman renwed his contract. They were never really dream targets for me so whatever.
Agree… dream targets are Nainggolan and Manolas – Rudiger is great too, but think Manolas with his Technic is more suitable to play next to Pepe…
Let´s see if Pepe is really coming, but I think Miranda could also still perform just fine next to a good and fast cb like Manolas. I don´t think De Vrij is bad, far from it – a moster in the air with ability to deliver long balls. His pace might be a problem and we haven´t really had too much luck with these guys signed from Lazio lately.
Yep and with only Serie A football next year and only one game pr week Miranda could be just fine for one more season….
Still, don’t like his attitude this season and he has been very sluggish too!
Miranda seems to be declining, but maybe we can use some dope to him that Juve are using to Barzagli and other grandpas

I don’t think he would leave Atleti for us this summer unless they kick him out. I’m not a fan of buying these over thirty players, but Godin is a really good player. I hope our management can use some creativity and find some good deals that these news aren’t telling us at the moment.

But yeah, there is flaws in all of these guys: Manolas isn’t really a ball distributer from the back, De Vrij isn’t fast and Rudiger is clumsy. I think they’re going for Rudiger as he is fast and can kind of distribute the ball – I just can’t respect his clumsy looking technique 😀 Any of our current cb’s except Medel – who is finished – can’t really distribute the ball well so I guess that’s the reason they seem to have switched from Manolas to Rudiger.

Still; Manolas is very good at short passing and is almost as good on the ball as any midfielder – did you see the run he made against Genoa, where he went 1-2 with a couple of midfielders and almost got him self into shooting position in front of Genoa´s goal? He started the move himself from the back of the defense and ran – like and old style sweeper – all the way to Genoa´s goal.
But true, Rudiger is fast, tall and has very good long ball distribution- but Manolas´contract isn’t being renewed so…
Just hope we get a quality defender instead of Murillo!
Out of those three Manolas is the one I like most. And if we are only buying one expensive cb he would be my choice. Manolas-De Vrij sounds good pairing, but we seem to be going for Rudiger-Pepe, which for me sounds like a possible recipe for disaster. Rudiger-Pepe can also work out as some crazy things sometimes do.
I hope Pepe arrives, he has it all, aggressive in defending, fine in the air, actually is good on the ball and Rudiger is fast, athletic and young, and he knows and likes Spalletti a lot! I guess Pepe could need a faster partner next to him and even Miranda could go with a speedster…
we simply have to wait and see what Saba and Ausilio will bring in 🙂
I kind of imagine Rudiger making a mistake and Pepe covering for it with a tackle from behind. I also see a red card when I close my eyes and think of those two together. But that´s just me and I´m a quite pessimistic guy 😀 😀
you reminds me to Materazzi. I really like him tho. Hope someday he’ll joins Inter for a coach position or whatever as long he can slap the player in the head if they play like brozovic

Hehe – that’s also why I think we should get Krychowiak to play in front of our central defense. He would do the cleaning up before Rudiger or Pepe gets really challenged, plus he’s capable of dropping back into central defense and play as an extra defender.
