It has been previously speculated that Edgardo Bauza, Argentina’s now ex-coach, had a personal grudge against Mauro Icardi and wouldn’t be willing to call the Inter captain to the national team. Now, however, since Bauza’s dismissal, Mauro Icardi is finally ready to return to the Albiceleste and has been called up for Argentina’s friendlies against Singapore and Brazil.

Maxi Lopez, who has had a long, controversial history with Icardi, commented on the Inter captain’s call-up to the Argentina national team in an interview with  Fox Sports in Turin, saying “If he helps the national team, great. I say that as a fan of the Argentinian national team. He’s a great player but every coach has their own choices. Personally, I like Messi and Higuain up there but I’d like to see Mauro as well. Argentina’s attack is simply fun to watch but it won’t be easy to select who to play.”
