Gazzetta dello Sport writes that Luciano Spalletti has a period of peculiarity at Inter and discusses whether he needs to get some more players in.
After the transfer of Jeison Murillo, the Nerazzurri only have Miranda and Milan Skriniar. However Inter’s biggest problem is the midfield according to the paper.
The sales of Gary Medel and Geoffrey Kondogbia means that Inter lack a real ball winner in the midfield. They failed in signing Arturo Vidal and Radja Nainggolan and Gazzetta believes that a replacement should be looked at.

I think this is bs. Spaletti is content with borja to be our rossi in regista position. No need for BWM. But he wants a complete midfielder, a different maker like nainggolan or vidal kinda player. Even strootman played a little bit forward under spalletti.
Only if Brozo go elsewhere..
Lol sold Murillo and medel sent back saint bury n kept ranno but our midfeild death is the problem????
They didn’t even try for Vidal or Nainggolan. Saying you want a player and actually submitting a proper bid are two different things. And now it seems like we have no more money to play with, and on top of that we need two CB’s. More than we need a Midfielder.
All these “average at everything” midfielders are making me vomit tbh.
A midfield is supposed to be a unit where players compliment eachother with their strenghs to others weaknesses. I dont know what happened to buying players for specific roles. Take milans old midfield with with Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, Kaka and to some degree Ambrosini, here are 5 players who all have significant weaknesses, but who all also were exceptional at what they do best and they complimented eachother very well. Thats how you build a midfield, not by buying 3x “average at everything” players.
Atleast Valero is a step in the right direction here as he is exceptionally good at what he does best, but the problem is that there is no one who is exceptionally good at what he does worst (defending).
what a midfield ! to believe that half of it was assembled at Branca’s expense 😛
Hows ur treble going
how’s your 6th 9th 5th 8th 4th 7th place finishes in the last 6 years treating you ? is 6 years not enough time to qualify for CL ??
how about Gagliardini? I think he’s pretty solid for defending.
Ive been saying this since christmas, this Inter needs a REAL natural no-nonsense DM.
At Roma Spalletti had Strootman, De Rossi and Nainggolan who all are good if not great at defending.
At Inter he has Mario and Valero who cant defend at all and then Brozo, Gaglia and Vecino who are decent at best at defending. Gagliardini has room for improvement still though.
It just not going to cut it defensively. We will almost at all times be using one of Valero and Mario, so thats one midfielder whos defensive contribution is almost zero at all times. Obviously this means that the other two midfielders needs to make up for this, but thats currently not possible.
Ask Suning to loan Teixeira.
Why? I doubt an AM is going to solve the defensive issues in midfield….
No one can score in inter’s midfield. BTW, he is not being used at Suning and he is great as a wing.
We have Vecino who is an exceptional ball winner with great game reading skills, and there is also Gaglia.
Gaglia>Vecino
At least not in couple of years.
He already showed that in the game against Fiorentina. I hope Vecino improves, otherwise it is dumb to bench our ITALIAN YOUNGER player for a mediocre player…
Calling Vecino a mediocre player is just silly
I have seen two games from Vecino so far, and in both he has been mediocre. Time will be the judge Amir.
Playing the way Spalletti wants to doesn’t require an old facing ball winner. He wants the team to do both parts of the game: everyone takes part in the attacking part and everyone takes part in the defending part. Plus keeping ball possession is number 1, 2 and 3 for Spalletti and when you have a lot of technical strong players in your team keeping possession will be a lot easier and make the need for a destroyer lesser.
Look at Barca; they have never really had one destroyer in the team but a lot of technical superb players who were strong enough to keep the ball moving forever and therefor no need for a “ball winner”. Besides calling Vidal or Nainggolan ball winners is pretty down-grading if you ask me!
Barca has a real ball winner called Busquets, and since he’s aging they splashed 40mil for Paulinho… Real has it in Casemiro, Roma has it in De Rossi and Naingollan. Rube had the same struggle last season (with Marchisio out) now they have two in Matuidi and Marchisio.
Physical DMs are still as much a part of the game as they were before in Makelele’s time. They just became better in goal scoring and going forward (e,g. Casemiro)
We just have to hope that Vecino and Gagliardini can become decent. I don’t see any available top physical DM in the market currently that we can afford…
Krychowiak fits the bill.
He’s another average midfielder like Vecino to me. I want Nabi Keita…
Krychowiak is nothing like Vecino.
He is a real traditional DM, great defensively and at reading the game when opponent has the ball. Mediocre at everything else. He would compliment Valero pretty good i think.
When you get benched to Rabiot, grandpa Motta, and Matuidi you are garbage to me… ‘Nough said
lol all of those would walk right into Inters starting 11.
The reason he isnt being used is more because they dont really need a traditional DM, since all their midfielders know how to defend anyways.
I never really understood why they bought him, seemed quite obvious he wouldnt fit well with their idea of football tbh.
Haha, I rate Borja higher than Motta at this point, and Mario above Rabiot. So not necessarily
Motta and Rabiot can defend.
naby keita is difficult right now. RBL demand 100M euro for him. if EPL clubs who stronger financial than us cant buy him. dont see we can buy him
Agree with you.. look at how ManUtd longing for Matic and Chelsea shines with their Kante.. but i see growing Matic inside our Vecino (really!)
You´re right – and my point was the same as yours; a now-a-days destroyer is not JUSt a destroyer but also a regista and we have that in Vecino/Valero. And if we change to 3-5-2 (which I think is the plan looking at the players arriving) a ball winner in the middle is not as important with 3 defenders at the back to cover..
3-5-2 will not be our primary system. We haven’t even started a single game with that system. Will we use that? Sure, but for occasions that we are desperate.
I know 3-5-2/3-4-3 won’t be our number one system. The club wants to continue with the 4-2-3-1 Thohir stated to implant when he took over, but Spalletti played many games with 3 at the back at Roma last year and with a couple of good defenders in (Mangala and someone else) he could try it out again at Inter in the near future.
Both Cancela and Dalbert seem to be more wing backs than full backs right? And with 2 players on top (Icardi and Schick) that system would make sense
lmao all of strootman, De Rossi and Nainggolan are good ball winners…
