Gabigol spoke to Premium Sport upon completing his move to Benfica: “I’m delighted to have a great chance to prove my qualities. The offer arrived yesterday at 3 pm, before there was no official proposal. The goal for me was to play as much as possible so do well here in Portugal to return to Inter. I do not know what I did not do at the Nerazzurri but I guarantee that I was busy every day and I was always ready. I would like to thank all the fans for the love they have given me. I thank Inter for this opportunity and I hope to one day return the love I have been given by Inter and the fans.”

Question : if he somehow becomes great in Benfica and they decide to activate his clause, can Gabi himself disagree with their contract and return to inter ?
Hmmm good question, I don’t think he can since he agreed to the loan deal and the contract with it but that’s a good question
Even if they want to buy him outright at the end of the season, they still have to negotiate with the player over his wages and compensations. That’s how it usually works.
I think his high wage could actually be a problem if they want to sign him permanently next summer.
The only player I’ve seen who wants to play for the shirt, I still don’t understand why he never was given a chance to start a game or come on at half, but I hope he does well and comes back and has the same mentality of playing for this shirt. Good luck gabigol!
agree.. but what worries me about him that he was benched not by 1 coach but by 3 different coaches.. there must be some issues concerning his adaptation to Italian football because I don’t think he lacks quality.. every time he plays he shows a glimpse of what he is capable of doing
Very true, and actually basically 4 coaches if you count the primavera coach, I mean every time he played he showed he has tremendous potential, but a team like inter doesn’t do well with building players but buying players who already are there, I hope he gets a lot of playing time and comes back and is ready because I would love to have a little flash to our team even though the last couple times he played he didn’t show it like his debut, I think the coaches didn’t like that and wanted him to be simpler but I’ll definitely be watching him play and wish the best for him
Why was Benfica given the option? And I hope it’s not 25mil in the reports, cause I will be freakin mad…
I saw that it was 28 and a % on a future sale.
I mean to recoup the initial investment on a guy who hasn’t really shown anything yet is not terrible.
I just hope he does well in a country where he speaks the language and a less strong league.
I just hope he does well, while Benfica do terrible, so they don’t have $$ through the sale of other players to redeem him.
LOL
They can’t redeem if he doesn’t want to stay. Also, they can’t afford his wage demands.
I hope that you’re right.
Lol, me too.
it’s a mistake.. he shouldn’t have revealed his plan …now it’s hard to see him play since they know he’s not gonna stay anyway
Lol it’s irrelevant. Benfica know inter is a more prestigious club so it’s pretty normal that Gabis ambition is to return there.
The buyout is so high anyways, that unless he explodes like a new R9 then it’s very unlikely that benfica will buy him.
If they do, then he would be the most expensive player in their history and that’s not benficas philosophy. They buy cheap, develop and then sell expensive. In the past 3 seasons their net balance from transfer (outgoing minus incoming) is positive with over 200m€
I think that if he explodes they will buy him and then sell him for more than what they bought since that’s the way they do things, and if not hopefully he plays a lot and comes back matured and ready to fight for a spot here, I always had faith in him since he’s young and he’s learning so hopefully he will show that at benfica
He has to agree to stay in order for a purchase, then wages would be the next thing. We’re paying 60% of it as it is.
Even though they have the option he can deny it? I thought he agreed to the loan option so he doesn’t get a say
The price is only agreed with Inter, so if they offer that. Inter is contractually obligated to accept. But all personal terms are between him and the club.
28m is low now days
Great guy. Has more heart for the club than most of those pretenders
i doubt he will comeback to us, he will be evaluated by the smart benfica team at the end of the year, they wont let him comeback if he is any good, so if he comes back it means he is no good
even if they want to buy him, Gabi would have to agree to it. Otherwise deal doesn’t go through
if he enjoyed him self there he might say yes, but he sen inter fans are crazy for him, like his father said the voice of people is the voice of GOD
